There are several interesting cemeteries in Austin and this is one of them. Don't miss the Ney Sarcophagus of Robert Sidney Johnstone.

I am one of those people that enjoy going through historic cemeteries. On our trip to Austin this Christmas, we made a trip here. I could've stayed a couple of hours, looking at the monuments and headstones. So much history and many interesting finds. Next time, I would stop in the office and pick up a map. I don't think... We visited this beautiful historic cemetery in Austin today and was amazed how interesting it was. Many Legendary Texans are berried here. A history buff will really enjoy this site. Very easy to get to and close to downtown. Not real big so easy to walk around. A very moving place.

Beautiful green space that just happens to be filled with history. Could walk (or sit) for hours next to the beautiful plantings.

Texas has so much history and this State Cemetery adds to the understanding and comprehension of the great significance Texans place on their heritage. Whether they were past politicans, 9/11 victims, veterans etc, the flags fly high in honour of them. Americans place so much value on their servicemen and servicewomen and if you look amongst the gravesites, you will... More

To-day is November the 11th Remembrance Day This is the day when we British, Australian, New Zealand, South Africa and Canadian remember all our service personnel who gave their lives for our freedom in the two Great wars.Just walking round this peaceful place reminds one of the futility of armed conflict. A beautiful and interesting place. On this cemetery you will find lots graves of historical Texans. Also 9/11 and war monuments. The American Sniper Chris Kyle is also buried here. The place is serene and i definately recommend a visit.

We arrived at the cemetery shortly before closing but should have had time to walk around briefly. Not long after walking in (before 5 pm) we were ushered to the gate by a gentleman on a golf cart stating that they were closing the gates NOW. I understand it was close to 5 but it wasn't 5 and felt that... More

What a beautifully maintained cemetery to honor great Texans. I had the pleasure of taking my husband here on his first trip to Texas yesterday as we went through Austin. It was my third visit, and I was moved by the Chris Kyle stone that was not present on my last trip. We took time to read memorial stones and... More
