Looking like a grand plantation home from the street, it is decorated with fine period pieces inside. Much has been changed inside, but the ill fitting battered window framing and stairs remain original.

I took a Canadian friend on a 4 days tour to Corpus Christi and Austin and selected Neill-Cochran House Museum as one of the attractions to visit in Austin due to its interesting history. We arrived in mid afternoon and was admitted into the house. The guided tour would not start for another 30+ mins so we started going thru... More

The Neill-Cochrane House is a historic Greek revival residential structure that has been preserved and decorated in period pieces. It is an excellent example of pre-Civil War homes because it has been altered to a lesser extent than other homes designed by Abner Cook. Please note the portico and balusters. Also, some interesting artwork and silver pieces. Could not help... More

I recently had the opportunity to take a tour of the Neill-Cochran Museum House in Austin. Although much of the story was interesting and the rooms were beautifully decorated, it was not at all in keeping with what I expected. The furnishings were representative of what the ladies decided they liked as opposed to what was correct for the home.... More

Designed by the same architect who designed the Governor's Mansion, this house, built in 1855, is very beautiful. The original owner went broke and never lived in it. It was used as a Hospital for the Blind, and occupied by Custer as a hospital after the Civil War. The restorations are as authentic as they can be, and one room... More

Yes it is just another old house... but what an old house it is! The docents are hard to discern from the mid 19th century stuffed chairs in the house but it a beautiful home with much original furniture and a great story of family history attached to it.
