This site has a great view of Austin's skyline and Lake Austin. You climb a short series of steps to reach the top, and its worth a quick stop if you have the time.

This is a very romantic look out point! My sweet husband brought me up here first thing, and it was a fun thing to do together. The "hike" up is no big deal, but they could use a rest room facility!

Worth another visit not least to enjoy the fine views including the city skyline. And it gives locals a place to get some relief on humid summer dayd

Take the steps up to the Mount Bonnell lookout and you'll be treated to some wonderful views up and down Lake Austin. It's a great spot for photos--with or without people in them. You can marvel at high-end homes on the lake below and gaze...More

Lots of steps to climb to get to the top. Views obstructed by vegetation. No railings. Not wheelchair accessible.

Great mini hike for a nice view of the 'lake.' Take water (or a full picnic)! Nice place, but only worth hanging out for a little while, doesn't need a half-day or anything like that.

Beautiful place for a proposal! You can see views of Lake Austin and have an excellent view of the Austin Skyline as well. This is also an excellent place to go watch the sunset. Word of advice, don't wear shoes that are difficult to walk...More

Mt Bonnell is away from the hussle and bussle of downtown Austin. I recommend going early in the morning (9am) esp in the summer to beat the heat and to find parking. It offers a great view of Austin.

My sister bought me here while visiting from out of town. It's a cute date spot with lots of snuggling romantic views. The luxury homes below are a site to see. Nice spot for picture taking and an easy walk uphill.

Yes. They have picnic tables & trash cans there in assorted areas but be prepared for a few people passing by & possibly asking for a bite of food!
We won't have a car so what is the best way to get there from downtown?

If you're like most locals and are into fitness, you can rent a bike. If riding in hills is not your thing, you can use a ride-share app like rideaustin (Uber and Lyft don't work here).

How long would it take to complete the trail?

Not long at all, maybe ten or fifteen minutes. It's not really a trail, just a set of steps up to the top from the parking area. It's absolutely worth doing, though, because its the best view in Austin.
