Beware of the really aggressive pan handlers

I have been going to the 6th st area for decades now. I've always had to deal with the huge crowds of well over served college kids but that's just part of the "charm". And more... read more

I have been going to the 6th st area for decades now. I've always had to deal with the huge crowds of well over served college kids but that's just part of the "charm". And more recently the huge crowds of tourists just milling around. It's still a fun place to spend an evening. Don't just go to to the... More

The slogan "keep Austin weird" lives here on 6th Street. You will meet all walks of life down on this street. 6th Street is a huge entertainment and nightlife area in Austin. There are bikini bars, cinemas, tattoo shops, craft beer bars, restaurants and gift stores. With beautiful historic architecture this neighbourhood is a must see!

Bourbon Street - Duval Street - you get the idea - ah the stench of beer and 'post beer'. Dive next to nice place next to really nice place, repeat. Complete with assorted assertive to aggresive panhandlers. You gotta love the one you ignore that proceed to dog cuss you for uh ignoring them. Go to my CrowdFund page -... More

We have walked the sidewalks of 6th street on a number of occasions and the outcome is always the same - fun! It has a little bit of everything which in and of itself makes it a place for all to go to. Restaurants, pubs, entertainment, wine, chocolates - it even has a Bikini Bar (you don't have to wear... Can't go wrong with a night of bar hopping on 6th st. Make sure you eat first and if you aren't into the large and younger crowd you may want to try 4th st. For the older crowd it is great people watching. There is every kind of bar and music you can think of....pubs to piano bars. Get your... More

We were told not to walk alone at night around our hotel. Looking forward to 6th St. being renovated in the next few years.

Nearly every city has a road like this, at night it's the party centre, during the day the restaurants are the same, but the area looks sad and rundown. The lights at night..and the alcohol make this road and it's bars look great. Traffic is stopped so you can walk freely. During the day it was surprising how many homeless... More

Real bad bands/singing, loud, dirty, noisy --- I don't get it!!! Displaced people everywhere. I do not get why anyone would come here. Just further north visit Arlos for great vegan eats sans bad "battle of the bands" noise. Maybe it's great during SXSW, but not rest of the time. VooDoo Donuts with a visit. That's all!
