This is a very good start historical museum and provides an in-depth review of Texas history. This is an excellent addition to a tour of the start capitol and going to both with a lunch between fills up a day.

In all the years of coming to Austin I had not been to this museum until this year. Our business contact purchased the tickets - I think there was a slight discount because we got them so late in the day, close to 4 PM. I didn't know what to expect and was surprised at how well done the displays... More

I was excited about visiting the museum after reading a bunch about Texas history, but the early days aren't well documented/showcased.

I love the BTSHM. It is a must see if you are downtown sightseeing for more than a day. IMO, the main lobby huge gift shop is a must do. You do not have to buy any tickets to visit the gift shop in lobby or Cafe on 2nd Floor. The Cafe is casual, order at counter. Great for lunch... More

We had only a few hours to spend here, and could have spent all day. They have done a great job of portraying a broad spectrum of Texas History.

Beautiful building and displays. If history is your thing and you want to see artifacts and learn about the foundation's of Texas this is your place. The gift shop is very nice and prices competitive. I learned a lot about Texas and had several impressions of the past folklore dispelled. If your interests are not strong in history I would... A bit expensive compared to the even better Institute of Texan Cultures that covers much of the same stuff but it was still great and even my two teen girls enjoyed it. The 3D film was okay. The highlight was seeing the staff actually work on the La Belle shipwreck.

We were able to enjoy a guided tour from a museum volunteer, you might ask at the entrance about this option. While the LBJ museum did a better job of incorporating technology into the experience, the state history museum had a lot to offer. Several of the historical settlers highlighted were women. Plenty to see and learn here. Both history... More

This is a great venue to see a special effects movie. Parking is plentiful and the IMAX theater is really large. If you plan to go to a really popular movie near opening day expect long lines. We went to see Star Wars two weeks after it opened. We arrived 30 minutes early and the line already had over a... More

The museum cover from early settlement to modern day. Is a sizeable but can be done in 4 hours. Fascinating to see how Texas has changed over history but also how old traditions today are still alive from years gone by. They also have Imax that I didn't see a show in but had fairly frequent shows and they play... More
