Be sure it email in advance since you need to have a background check before you are able to visit. We were only able to visit the front rooms on the lower level since the Governor was having a meeting in a back room on the lower level but it was still nice to be able to learn about the... More

5 elementary friends gathered for a girls retreat in Austin, our home town from 60 years ago and on our To Do list was the Governor's Mansion. Surprise...you need security clearance to tour this grand building. Our very knowledgeable guide was certainly up on Texas history as well as the occupants and the furnishings. So glad it's open again for... More

Was able to walk by the Texas governors mansion, but touring the house requires an application two weeks in advance. Disappointed to not be able to tour it.

The Texas Governor's Mansion in Austin, TX is literally "risen from the ashes" -- having survived an arsonist's fire bomb thrown at the front door in 2008. For approximately 5 years, fundraising efforts and the hiring of artisans from all over the world to re-create 19th century architectural elements, the Mansion finally re-opened for public touring -- under the supervision... If you email them and ask to take a tour at least 2 weeks before your trip you can go inside. They will ask for your DL info and do security check on you. If approved they will email details about a week before you visit. The tour is free but that said I still didn't think it was worth... More

This is right next to the capital, so if you are there you might as well stop by. The road is closed off so it is quiet and when I was there, I was the only person around. I took a few pictures, but it is gated and you can't go in.

I was in the first group to tour the Governor's house after the fire renovation. It was nice to see, but you only got to see very limited areas. The historical aspect is very nice mainly because of the age and uniqueness of the home, but taking the tour is not something I would go out of my way to... More

If you're visiting Austin, and especially if you're touring the capitol, walk on by the Governor's Mansion, which is located across the street. It is a beautiful building and you can get right up to the fence to really have a good look. The road in front of the mansion is closed, so it's relatively quiet. I'm glad we stopped.

The remodelling efforts are really looking good. The outside is finished and was decorated for Christmas. Can't wait for it to reopen.
