The Contemporary Austin reflects the spectrum of contemporary art through exhibitions, commissions, education, and the collection. The museum has two distinct yet complementary locations, the Jones Center downtown and Laguna Gloria, a fourteen-acre site on Lake Austin, which is home to the Driscoll Villa, Gatehouse Gallery, the Art School, and the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria.

Exhibitions at The Contemporary Austin - Jones Center change approximately three times per year. Visit our website for information on current exhibitions.

My company hosted a professional dinner on the rooftop for a high-level executive crowd. We had everything from live music with a stage, tent with AC, lounge furniture, TV, two bars, catering, several tables, floral arrangements, etc. The staff was very flexible with all vendor drop off/pick up coordination. The rental space plus all these necessary add-ons did get expensive.... More

Unfortunately it wasn't a great experience with the security lady hovering over me watching my every move though. She was 2 feet from my face... More

We paid $10 dollars for 2 adults to go into a contemporary museum. The museum had a first floor exhibit which was composed by a maze (stillo in construction) with 4 displays, then we went to the second floor expecting to see a museum and we ended up in a 1 room museum with 4 pieces in display!!!! When we... More

Try to go on Tuesday when it is free admission. Currently there is a really wild and fun exhibit by the lead singer of Devo. There are pipe organs he made out of discarded tubes and whistles and there is an interactive loft at the very back where you can take pictures of yourself wearing Devo hats and masks.

I went to the Contemporary in December during their Holiday celebration. It was so much fun walking around the museum, participating in the activities and just hanging out on the rooftop. I cannot speak to what it is like the rest of the year, but if you happen to be in Austin on the weekend of the Christmas Tree lighting... More

We visited yesterday to view the current exhibition "Strange Pilgrims" which was interactive and quite interesting. The usd5 fee also gives you access to the Laguna Gloria site which is worth the drive ftom the city.

There are two rooms with minimal art. $10 for a couple (mandatory, no longer donation-based). See picture, that's about the extent of the first floor.

We lucked out in the timing of our visit. A new exhibit of Robert Therrien's work had just opened the night before so admission was free. The venue is small but well laid out, we spent about an hour there and felt like we spent a perfect amount of time. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and was excited about... More

If you like contemporary art and interesting architecture, you should stop in to Arthouse when in Austin. There are also special events and the rooftop space is particularly cool - it has a nice view of the city.
