Main facilities are currently closed due to storm damage. However restrooms are available and the trails are cleared and open for the most part. We easily saw two dozen species of birds. Also feral pigs, armadillo, deer, raccoon and gators. We could see the whooping...More

if you are a birder, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is a must-see. There are so many species of birds here, including the highly endangered Whooping Cranes during the winter. Because of its relatively southern location, the refuge has many species of birds that simply do...More

If you're an avid bird watcher this is a great place to visit. It is a big 20 mile detour from the main road though. And we only saw 5-6 birds. And the visitors centre was closed due to damage from Hurricane Harvey 2m previous.

We had a GREAT time. But it took us 45 minutes to get there from Rockport and once we left the main road and wandered through mega-farmland, the GPS made one mistake after the other. When we reached and actually saw the gate, it said...More

I had been told by a serious birding friend 40 years ago that I should visit this place, and I finally had the opportunity. It was well worth the visit. Although conditions were not great for seeing migrating songbirds (onshore wind rather than offshore) we...More

Yes. Purchase of pass is available. Roads are paved. Try some of the walking trails as well as the viewing tower. Bring plenty of water. Have fun.
