Old Town Alexandria is a wonderful place to visit in DC...lots of shops and restaurants and historic homes dating back to the 1700's and 1800's. Old Town is along the Potomac River and the Torpedo Factory is a great place to see the waterfront as...More

Always a pleasure to visit the Old Town Waterfront. We enjoy it's parks, walks, the Torpedo Factory and many excellent restaurants and boutique shopping.

We came down to the waterfront to take an evening cruise of the historic buildings and were really surprised by the upscale and active redevelopment. They keep the historic charm as the focus, but there are shops and great places to eat for everyone. Very...More

There is a nice little marina with typical riverboats that cruise on the Potomac, from Alexandria to Georgetown. It is very nice to walk here in the morning, nice restaurants, street music players, casual and relaxed environment.

The waterfront is being heavily commercialized, granted there was not much there beforehand except rotting wharfs and some scattered buildings. The old Buildings across the street are very well preserved.

Waterfront is a picturesque spot. There were various street entertainers throughout the day and evening. Lots of family on the weekend. Would be nice if there was one moderate- to inexpensive place to eat.

Didn't rock my socks as not a lot on the waterfront other than boats and Torpedo gallery. That aside there were a few restaurants, nice views across the river and plenty of places to sit.

Enjoying the waterfront of Old Town has been a welcome tradition for years for my family. Most recently, this past Thursday, when deciding where to go for dinner, we strolled the boardwalk area, along with pets, childfen, young, and young at heart. A warm night,...More

Shops and bars and places to eat. The views are not that great but ok. It was easy to walk even in a wheelchair but it is not that long before it gets to boring. The shops and stores a block away are interesting and...More

I see if you buy tickets in advance for the water taxi to National Harbor, you have to pick your departure and return times. Do you have to adhere to these times, or can you return on any trip back to Alexandria?

Hello There! I am not really sure, but honestly, they never get filled so really no need to buy it in advance because I always buy mine on a whim and have never had a problem. Georgtown is nice, but National Harbor is... More
Hi ! I'm traveling to Bethesda, MD for the 4th time, spending the majority of our time in DC. This visit, however, we are taking a little side trip to Alexandria. I have a couple of questions: 1) is one day enough time to spend in Old Alexandria/Waterfront 2) is there a reasonably priced ferry that goes to Mount Vernon & is that the best way to go? Any guidance & other tips would be appreciated?

One day should be enough to visit Alexandria. Consider use of the yellow or blue line Metro exiting at the King Street Metro since parking can be difficult. The King Street metro area is icky, but if you like to walk to the... More
