This is a medieval cemetery not far from Mostar 33km or so and easy drive. It was my first time ever to see a medieval necropolis and I was fascinated with the motives on the tombestones. It seems that the road kind of passed through the cemetery area as you can see some more tombestones scattered on the opposite side... More

The necropolis of Radimlja is just became part of Worl Heritage. These medieval tombstones are called "Stecci" and are dated from the 12th to 16th centuries. Many burials are decorated in bas relief showing hunting scenes, knights, animals and holy symbols. The visit and discovery of these tombstones was very interesting.

This place was recently added to the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage and it definitely deserved it. Stecaks are medieval tombstones and you can find it mostly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a smaller number in the bordering countries. There is a total of 133 tombstones here and some are beautifully decorated. Entrance fee is 4 KM (cca 2... More

Stecaks is a necropolis located in the little town of Stolac, in the south part of Bosnia&Herzegovine. Here you can see a lot of tombstones with beautiful inscriptions. If you like the old history, it is a very beautiful place with very interesting inscriptions, if not, here you only see stones. Although if you like very much to take photos,... More

We stopped here on our way to Mostar. Turn at the large sign for Radimlja Necropolis and the cost is 2E/person. There is a visitor center, WC, picnic table. We were there in the afternoon and the reliefs were very clear and very interesting. Definitely worth a stop since we had never seen anything similar in our travels.

This is an interesting place. if you are nearby I would make a detour to visit it. The are medieval tombes with interesting signs. I would advice to read in advance a little bit of the story of the place in order to get a better appreciation.

Last Friday in Stolac at the National Park Radimlja Stolac was quite remarkable, a poetry night among ancient tombstones. The Radimlja necropolis is one of the most valuable monuments of the medieval period in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is candidate to become UNESCO protected area. It is a perfect site for celebrating life events. As I said we were there... More

If you like cemeteries, tombstones, history, old things and/or interesting places, you will enjoy the stecaks outside of Stolac. It is on the way to Mostar from Dubrovnik, so it is an easy stop. It consists of a large number of giant tombstones called stecaks. They are made of limestone and date from the 13 - 15th centuries. They were... More
