Those floating docks in Manana are mostly floating Gas Stations. You need to have everything floating on the Rio Negro because of the high Tides.

these floating gas stations are an amusing sight but are a necessity for the many river craft which ply these waters. they are to be seen on other major river waterways.

Imported from Europe in the last century it is a marvel of technology and still in use today. In the rainy season the Rio Negro water level goes up by 12 to 15 meters and the dock rises accordingly allowing non stop berthing of ships.

Interesting site and worth visiting to see the floating houses on the River Negro. Some even have satellite dishes. The small enclave includes a bar. Some boats have air conditioning (rare) and outhouses. Interesting site.

This place has the old charm. I was here many years ago and things have changed quite a bit. The floatíng dock is still used by little boats and littel companies, depending on the water level you might get wet feet.

As part of a river tour, we stopped at the floating gas station to give people a chance to buy snacks, water, beer and whatever else. Nice bit of local color.

Our guide Milton stopped the boat at a floating dock to get gas in Manaus, and I must say it's an interesting experience to say the least! To see other boats line up to get gas and watch workers get on the boat to pump...More

It's a dock that floats and there are boats hooked up to it. The dock can rise and fall considerably based on the river's flow, but a 5 minute look and that's it.
