The History Museum at the Castle presents award-winning local history as well as national exhibits through hands-on experiences that engage people of all ages. We're best known for our exceptional interactive Harry Houdini exhibit that reveals the magician's illusions. Don't miss the exclusive Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion interactive exhibit now through February 3, 2013! We also pay tribute to Pulitzer Prize winning author Edna Ferber, and put Sen. Joseph McCarthy into perspective.

What a great place. Amazing historic building! The Houdini exhibits are interesting, interactive and accurate. A must see for any Houdini fan! They do a great job of tying his history to Appleton and how he and his family moved from there. Plenty of Houdini...More

This is a large fun interactive museum of Harry Houdini! A lot of interesting facts along with many interacting exhibits to engage the visitor! My daughter had a wonderful time and we spent a lot of time inside exploring! Fun experience!

We came for the Houdini exhibit, which was neat. I enjoyed how the information was presented in a more interactive format. (Care to try to fit inside a milk can like Houdini did?) It was also interesting seeing the 'how it was done' part, revealing...More

This is an excellent smaller museum housed in a past Masonic Temple. The building itself is worth a trip just to see, this museum has something for everyone. The most popular exhibit of course would be the Harry Houdini exhibit on the 2nd floor, it...More

Wow, never realized how people were thrown into a mental health facility for the insane with such behaviors and bewildering reason as were used in that time period. They even present articles and exhibits of things the residents at the institution made. One resident had...More

Lovely building. Former Masonic temple. Fun museum. Can easily see it all in 1 to 2 hours. Second floor devoted to Houdini. Some magic revealed. First floor varies as rotating exhibit. Cute quick.

First off, IT'S A CASTLE! It really won't get much better than that. However, each time I have been there, they have great exhibits. As I have said in many reviews before, there is something special about this place people from Northeast Wisconsin call home....More

It's a good museum for kids, not so much for two adults. The Houdini exhibit primarily concentrates on letting kids explore how Houdini performed and there are very few artifacts or information about his life. We glanced at the remainder of the exhibits, which seemed...More

Very interesting exhibits. I use a wheelchair and found it very accessible with parking near the back entry. I phoned ahead so they could buzz me thru the back entry when I arrived. Small gift shop with lots of items with reasonable prices.

this museum features events that encompass the local history. Houdini, McCarthy and many other individuals as well as the local Asylum, toys, and art. The exhibit on toys was real wonderful; they had a video loop running of the toy commercials that ran in the...More
