We were in Ouro Preto for 2 days and visited the city and the mines the first day and did itacolomi the second. We got a taxi around 10.30 at praça tiradentes and told the driver we wanted to go to pico itacolomi. We agreed on 70 reais (go and picked us back up at 16h at the beginning of... More

Average difficulty hiking tour. First 2 km you are going throw forest. After that you start to go up to the peek. It took a little bit more than 4 hours to reach the top and come back to parking lot (In total 13 km). There is other possible hiking routes in the park. Park entrance is 20 minutes from... More

This is a beautiful area. We took a taxi from Ouro Preto to the hospital, across the street. We wanted to do some hiking, but we didn't realize that the actual hiking trails started at the visitor center, which was 5.5 Km from were we started. So we walked up (all up) the road to the visitor center, which was... More

We took a bus from Ouro Preto specifically to visit the park and climb the peak. However, at the entrance we were stopped by some rangers from the MG Forest Institute who are in charge of the premises. They said that the park is closed and we cannot get in. I asked if there is something wrong with it, maybe... More

First advice take the bus COOPEROURO, this will stop directly in front of the entrance. There will be a fee charged, 10Rs. From there you can have a nice walk of 5,5 km to the top, where other intersting places are located. We had a really nice guy (speks no english) who guided us around and showed us plants and... But it's a terrible way to get there. Hard to find the beggining of the road that gets you there but in the middle you'll wish you hadn't found. Once you get to the top, you'll forget all the problems. Better to go whenever there's a championship of paragliders (it seems there's one every week).
