Wonderful view and sunset!! Great place to walk from the begining of Urca until the end of "Forte São João". It is the safest place in Rio de Janeiro. But the beach is not very clean and during weekends plenty of people not very clean as well. I recommend go to there on week days. During weekends you can go... More

Praia da Urca, only a few steps away from cable car station, is one of those peaceful places in Rio, to recreate and calm down a bit from the hustle and bustle of and otherwise wonderful city. Whenever we visit Pão de Açúcar (preferrably early morning or late afternoon for smoother light), we try to reserve at least half an... More

It's a small beach in a nice neighborhood. I feel like many places in Rio de Janeiro has amazing views, and this beach is one of them.

I was born in Rio, but going to Urca's beaches was always like holidays abroad! There were a few to chose, the protected little one when I was a kid and the big one as me and my cousins turn teenagers. Surfing and body boarding as a must!

I was in praia da Urca last week, it was really beautiful. Nice weather and beautiful landscape. I preffered this beach compared to Ipanema which is normally very crowded - I highly recommend to go and relax there.

Urca beach is another nice small beach in Rio. Less popular than it's glitzy cousins (Copacabana & Ipanema), it offers a more quiet and less touristy beach experience. It is a small beach though but it has great views of Sugar Loaf mountain.

Beautiful place to relax. Small beach and not crowded. Maybe, you will have difficult to park the car.

If you want to stay away from the crowds going to Copacabana and Ipanama, and if you have a car or are not worried to take a taxi, praya de Urca is a nice little beach. It is quiet, not touristic. If you go on Sunday evenings, you may see a ceremony praising Yemanja, the goddess of the sea. From... More

Amazed at the negative reviews, small beautiful beach next to Sugar Loaf Mountain, live jazz music when we visited, band played some Miles Davis numbers! Extraordinary musicians. Black vultures visiting the beach to feed. Laid back and picturesque place.

Urca beach is another decent beach in Rio. It is quiet and calm and easy to swim in. The water and the sand are not the most amazing though. However, it's proximity to the affluent Urca neighbourhood makes it worth a visit.

Staying in Urca

Neighbourhood Profile
Urca
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”
