Grumari, Prainha and Abrico beaches are amazing, its 15 min drive from Barra Da Tijuca. No public transportation, must go by car.

West side of Rio de Janeir, after Barra da Tijuca area (Olimpic Games area) you will get on a nice Coastal road to Grumari. Nice natural area, great beaches and amazing views.

this beach has a whole lot of friendly people! you need to stay by the barraca de venus the guy there is super funny and cool, this beach has the same issue as Prainha, no public transportation and very limited parking, so do make sure to come early, however it was easier to find parking here than the other beaches.

Worth the trip, abit far to go if you're coming from zona Sul. Mostly locals there, definitely cleaner if you compare with Copacabana for example, where they have the sewage going straight into the ocean. Give it a try if you have the time. Make sure to arrange transportation coming back, not easy to get a uber there!

For the fair-skinned readers, be very careful about even sitting under a parasol....the sun is so fierce here that you really need to add a towel to the parasol...that said, this is paradisiacal. It's a charming beach that was saved from being developed by the local surfing community, and as a result it is 'unsullied'...so much so that Brazilian broadcaster... More

This beach is located some 25 minutes from Barra de Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro. It is secluded and even on a weekend, there are very few people there. It's very different from the crowded beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. It is also very safe. There is a nice restaurant there. In a very secluded part of the beach,... More

In contrast to Copacabana and Ipanema, this area is amazing and relatively undiscovered by tourists. There is a open -air restaurant with an amazing commanding view.

This beach isn't near the city center of Rio de Janeiro but must be visited because it's more natural, more wild and with good places to eat and to drink beer and coconut water

Most of the beaches in Rio are polluted so you have to go outside the city to find clean beaches. Grumari is the spot to go for its beauty and crystalline waters. You can then finish your day in one of the many seafood restaurants proposing delicious fresh fish meals
