Amazing beach. Have a car! Traffic can be bad depending on the high season. It is definitely one of the best spots in Rio.

Wow, I listened to some great advice about visiting here! So beautiful, with the waves crashing, the festive (yet not overwhelming) "beach scene", several local vendors to grab a fresh coconut juice or such.....another reason why visiting Rio is always smart!

Imagine a little paradise ... This is Grumari. It is a small paradisiacal beach in Rio, surrounded by green, hidden behind hills. To get there it is good to rent a car because this place is well after Copacabana. But it's beautiful.

It is the family's favourite beach and we head of there either early in the morning before the crowds to get a parking place, or on a Summer's evening.

Long sandy stretch, surrounded by lush tropical forest. Paradise... Not many food and drink options on the beach. Which is nice for a change: take your picknick with you and finally get to enjoy proper food and drinks on the beach... more Champagne, anyone? If...More

It is the farest beach in Rio. It is after Barra, Recreio and Pontal (if you check on a map). The way is not difficult, but on the weekends and holidays they have a maximun number of cars allowed due to enviromental issues. It is...More

West side of Rio de Janeir, after Barra da Tijuca area (Olimpic Games area) you will get on a nice Coastal road to Grumari. Nice natural area, great beaches and amazing views.

Not sure if this is too late but we got a bus to Barra Sul as it was cheaper due to the distance and then got a taxi from there. The taxi agree to pick us up from the beach at a certain time later on.
