I have visited chruches and monasteries across the world, and Sao Bento has to rank as one of the most incredibly beautiful I have ever seen! Glorious monastery!

The monastery isn't open for visitors but you can see the fantastically ornate church. The inside is amazing and a total surprise after the very plain exterior. The decorations are mainly of wood and gold leaf and well worth a look

In downtown heart the monastery is almost a cidadele, the church in a barroc style creates a special scenario for the mass by the monks. You shall watch on Sundays at 10AM.

We wactually visited twice, as we were told that the music at the Sunday Mass was very beautiful, so we went early as there is usually a crowd. Unforunately the singing was very poor, whether because some singers were away, or not, we could not...More

Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born.
With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical
buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living
proof that the old and the new can live together
harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where
all major companies house their offices. However, the
region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like
the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that
