I've been to Rio 6 times and only stay in Leblon...why?....because it is the most upscale, safest. and cleanest of the 3 Zonal Sul beach communities in my humble opinion. I have traveled solo on 5 of these occasions and never once felt threatened. I...More

After spending the first half of our vacation in Copacabana, we moved to Leblon to check out Leblon and Ipanema Beaches (they're actually one large beach/neighborhood split in half; together about the size of Copacabana). I actually preferred Copacabana more. Both areas are beautiful coastlines...More

Beach adjacent to some of the most expensive real estate in Rio. Well maintained. Was not very crowded the day we were there but there were several surfers catching the early spring season waves. Immediately to the East is the more famous Ipanema Beach. Just...More

While most tourists stay in hotels in and therefore go to Copacabana / Leme beach, locals prefer the beach of Ipanema / Leblon. In reality one 3.5km stretch of beach, with the canal of Jardim de Allah dividing Ipanema from Leblon. Arpoador is surfer oriented...More

It´s a nice beach in Rio de Janeiro. The beach is very beautiful and clean, not very crowded. I enjoyed a lot this place.

Personally a much better bet than Copacabana - more intimate. Hire a bike in Leblon, and cycle all way along to end of Copacabana and back - good work out. Just make sure you dont run anyone over - stepping out into the cycle path...More

Just popped along from Ipanema for a run in the morning. It's nice and quiet, with fewer of the beautiful people, and a great mountain view behind.

In Rio, the beaches (or rather the people that go to them) mirror the neighborhoods behind them. In Leblon, the beach scene is a bit older, laid-back and family oriented. The beaches in Rio have lifeguard towers with bathrooms called ‘postos’. In Leblon, the beaches...More

The best part of Ipanema is the far most part of the beach, towards Leblon, the absolutely most exclusive area of Rio. This pristine beach is calm and quiet, and I can only be happy to have found it, and could get away from the...More

If you think Ipanema is too crazy, keep on walking until you get to Leblon beach. Quieter, more families, but the same great surf and beach. Recommended especially for weekends.

In addition to being one of the most upscale
neighbourhoods in the city, Leblon is charming,
elegant and simple. This posh area has some of the
most famous and expensive restaurants in Brazil, along
with some of the city’s best nightlife (including some
places open all night). One of the best places to
visit is the beach, located under the impressive
“Morro Dois Irmãos” (Two Brothers Hill). It’s a
