Go to Bip Bip to hear some great bossa nova, choro and samba. Musicians come and go, and the music continues. The place is minute, but the musicians, playing there are great. Make sure you stay there to hear Alfredinho give a speech about the current state of Brazilian politics or some of the social programs he and the patrons... More

Went to Rio in April 2016 with my entire family. Tried to find Bip Bip one night because my dad and son both play guitar but there was nothing where Bip Bip was meant to be, we were using the GPS on our phones too.

Turned up on a Sunday evening and could not sit on street. Apparently a local licence issue. Group of musicians jamming. Music was initially rubbish until a musician left. Then some other ones drifted in and it became lively and good. Drinks are taken from the fridge and paid in cash later. Interesting business model. Owner very quirky. Yes it... More

On the night we visited, there was only beer (on the alcohol front) on a self serve basis, and I guess this is the norm. The owner sits out front and monitors and takes payment while a bunch of musicians play lovely samba music. Seating is mostly on a communal table on the street. Well worth a visit, for a... More

Bip bip is for those who like samba and good music. Atention for the quiet demand. All people is there to listening the musicians so it's not allowed to talk wile music is playing. Other thing is that there ins't a variety of food. Only beer and few snacks.

A charming spot for live music in Rio; just behind Copacabana's promenade Avenida Atlantica. We have been there for two succesive nights when Choro style jam sessions took place. You only pay for the drinks and have to be quite when music is played. The charming and wise owner sets the right atmosphere for skilled musicians attending the jam session.... More

Such a unique place! Tiny place with no room for patrons really - it all happens outside on the street. A handful of local musicians come around and play great, authentic music. I think they volunteer their time as it's all very informal. There's a fridge in the back and you grab a beer, tell the owner - who site... More

Tiny bar, self serve beer from the fridge, and let the owner know what you got. But you don't come here for the booze, you come here to listen to the most authentic non commercialized samba music ever by enthusiastic locals in a friendly atmosphere. We absolutely loved it! Drop you posh bar ideas, and spend an hour or two... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
