Went on a weekday, so missed the craziness. From what I understand, a non-touristic location great anyone to get a taste for the Carioca life. Great food options, flowers etc at a great price. Go check it out! Although there are many restaurants, go try Costelao for a slow cooked beef rib. Amazing.

It took me a long time to visit this Market , in spite of being born there. It was a pleasurable afternoon with a typical Portuguese meal and music to cheer up a reasonable number of visitors . Apart from the usual articles these marketplaces always have, what called my attention was the big number of wine, olive oils shops... More

Even traveling abroad, visiting a local food market might be interesting... Tasting local food is also a cultural experience - and this is the spirit that should preside your visit, if you choose to do so... You should know that CADEG is not a fancy market - it is a popular one, with a food variety of products, an interesting... More

CADEG - Centro de Abastecimento do Estado da Guanabara (Supply Center for Guanabara State) is exactly what the name says. It is a huge Supply Center with hundreds of warehouses that sell everything on fair prices, from Codfish to Olive Oil and Wines and Artisanal Beers, flowers, gastronomic gear... they have it all! But I think that the great catch... More

we went there for lunch on a Friday. Food was delicious (I guess the restaurant name was SHOW, it had a 1:1 size yellow Volkswagen vanette on a wall in the main room) and prices were absolutely affordable. It is plenty of liquors shop so it is a good place to buy wines from every part of the world and... More

CADEG is known by the fruit, vegetable, flowers and plants distribution... there you can find plants as cheap as 10% of the current value on regular market places. It's interesting by the variety and quantity of restaurants, most of then Portuguese food and their specialty... cod fish... unfortunately the place was so packed of people that was not possible to... This is a must in Rio, as long as you're used to masses and messes. The vibrant place is perfect for experiencing the chaotic ways that makes Rio so charming. Beware if you're not used to this. The food was great and we went while they had a Portuguese festival, which made everything more special. I would recommend trying the... More

In fact the address shown there's no conection with the picture. From the old Market built in the central area of Rio (on the picture) and demolished in the 50's , just remain one old tower where is located a nice restaurant actually. The new Market of the city is located a little bit far from downtown. But not too... More

When you read about the place and see the pictures, it seems like this would be a wonderful adventure. Wade through endless troves of cut flowers and sample a local fair. We love to go to these types of places and have been to many all over the world. So much for truth in advertising. This was a dingy place,... More
