This quaint bohemian neighborhood of Rio with colonial buildings and cobblestone streets steep on a hillside overlooking the city is earning the interest of tourists wishing to see an alternate Rio away from the beach scene. Art galleries and restaurants add to the local culture of Santa Teresa.

I really enjoyed our visit to Santa Teresa. The colors are amazing, it is quiet, peaceful but the art makes large noises.

We stayed at the nice and affordable Mama shelter hotel. Nice bars and restaurants were in walking distance. We never used a but and reached all interesting locations by foot. We always felt very safe. Lot of bars have a life music in the evening's.

Beautiful neighborhood , surprising destination with small boutique hotels and restaurants, need to spend time there away from the creasy beach side.

We live close to Shoreditch in east London - that's up and coming ! Santa Theresa is dreadful - full of semi derelict buildings covered in verbal graffiti . We felt uneasy walking around during the day and certainly would not return in the dark . There are a few shops selling local bits but please don't expect anything decent... More

This is a nice neighborhood to spend an hour or so, but not much to look at other than graffiti marred buildings and a few artisan shops. The cobblestones streets lend an old world charm, but as others have pointed out, it is surrounded by poverty, so don't venture here flashing anything of value. We spent three nights here during... Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
