The area
Neighbourhood: Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.

Tom Jobim is regarded as the father of bossa nova. He wrote the music for The Girl from Ipanema at a restaurant in Ipanema.

This is just one of many statues you will find on the beaches of Rio usually associated with musicians or writers. This one is located where Arpoador beach begins and Ipanema beach ends.

A good spot to take photos and learn something about the subject.

You can't miss it if you walk along the beach. There was a good three piece band playing there and a great view of the beach.

Not super exciting, but a fine photo opp if you’re in the area or happen to be passing. Right at the Copacabana end of Ipanema beach.

This statue was erected in 2014 on the 20th anniversary of Tom Jobim’s death at the age of 67 in New York. We encountered it on a walk along Ipanema Beach.

It is just a statue. Not worth going out of your way to see.

This is a nice statue celebrating Tom Jobim who was famous as the composer who wrote the popular Bossa Nova song "Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema) in the 1960's with his poet friend Vinicius de Moraes. Jobim died in a New York hospital in December 1994 and was flown back to Rio de Janeiro for burial.

If you're going to Ipanema, you might as well get a picture with the guy who wrote "Girl from Ipanema." It's close to the beach, so there it's easy to get to. If you don't make it though, don't worry. You're not missing too much.

This statue is from the great composer Jobim known for his son "Girl from Ipanema" . The statue lays in the last part of the Aproador beach, a nice place to see the sunset.

This is one of three bronze monuments located in close proximity to each other near tge Fort at Copacabana Beach. This one is on the Ipanema side and like the others makes for a fun photograph.
