Pinacoteca is a museum of visual arts, with emphasis on Brazilian production since the nineteenth century. It belongs to the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture. It was founded in 1905 by the State Government of São Paulo and it is the oldest art museum in the city. It is installed in the old building of the Arts and Crafts College, designed in the late nineteenth century by the architect Ramos de Azevedo. In the 1990's it underwent an extensive renovation with the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha's project. Pinacoteca hosts about thirty exhibitions and receives about 450,000 visitors yearly. The museum's main focus is to promote to general public a better experience with visual arts with its collection, building and historical relevance.

For R$ 6,00 per person ($2.00 USD) you get to see some fine art work. When you look at the building from the outside, it looks like it needs some work to keep it standing upright. However, when you get inside, it is being well taken care of. There is modern, contemporary, classical art displayed. My wife and I spent... More

The building by itself is great already, good external and internal architecture. I has a good variety of art works, it's cheap to enter R$6,00 adult. Easy accessibility from the Luz Station, although it is recommended to be aware of your surroundings, due to the presence of drug addicts. In 1-2hours you can see the whole place and enjoy the... This is one of those galleries that you must visit in São Paulo. There is an excellent variety of paintings and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The building itself is interesting. And unlike most galleries and museums it has a cafeteria which does not rip you off and sells good food. It is worth spending a whole morning or afternoon.... More

A very old building was revamped to become a modern Art Museum, instalations, without altering the original construction. Very pleasant visit for art lovers. There is a small coffee coffee shop overlooking a garden. The area around the museum is not recommended for strolling around. Better go in a tour.

Whaf an amazing space with great old and new artefacts in a fabulously renovated building. The gallery is 3 floors of greatness. The cafe on the lower floor offers good coffee and outside seating next to a beautiful park. Wifi available and lots of staff to answer questions. A tiny fee of R$6 for adults is just nothing to what... More

The museum has a permanent classic collection on top floor and contemporary exhibitions on the other floors. The building is an elegant brick construction with round brick columns. Museum cafe has indoor and outdoor seating. It's highly recommended for people who appreciate the arts.

The third floor exhibitions (end of XIX art) was particularly interesting. it is worth spending a couple of hours (more if you can) at this wonderful museum. I was in town for a couple of days and asked some friends who visit Sao Paulo frequently, what to do if you only have a few hours to spare and they suggested... More
