We visited several hilltribe villages over a period of three days while in Kengtung in February 2017. We went to Akha, En(Ann?), Lahu Shi and one other group. It was very interesting to visit the different villages. There was always at least one other group of westerners visiting the same times we were. We used Sai Samtip as our guide.... More

We were trekking for 5 days in the vicinity of Kengtung, visiting various tribal villages, in december 2016. As usual, we were staying in KT overnight. The tours were a HIGHLIHT, firstly due to the magnificant landscape, secondly by being able to still see some rather original villages of tribal people living in the hills. We were lucky to be... 1. The hill tribe visits near Kengtung were the highest highlight of our 2 week trip to Southeast Asia, and one of our best travel experiences ever. The tribe encounters were fascinating, genuine, memorable. Definitely better than the more well known tribal visits around Inye Lake/Kalaw. Few tourists, like going back in time, and a great variety of tribes, each... More

There's different villages that you can go to on a day trip. Some can be accessible by transport whereas some need to do some trekking from half to 3 hours depending on the village that you go to. The trekking would need a level of fitness as certain parts of the trek is a little steep. The guide would buy... More

We had an unusual objective .. we were going to visit a Black Lahu village which had never had a "white" visitor, hoping to be given permission to stay the night, as we had a top guide .. Sai Leng .. the village headman and a personal friend from the tiny village who was studying nursing in Australia on an... More

My companions and I hired a guide - Kyaw Sein - who took us in his tuk tuk to the end of the road at a village low on the mountain. From there we trekked about three hours, with stunning views to the Chinese border, to the Akar villages, where we met delightful, welcoming people. We drank the local spirit... More

I thoroughly relished the chance to hike up to some of Kengtung's nearby hills and visit the hill tribe people. The villages you can reach on a day trip and back are all undergoing the same rapid change that's taking rest of the country by storm, albeit at varying speeds. More and more young people are decidedly choosing modern clothe... More

I was looking forward to this portion of my trip. And I really enjoyed it. Unlike other tourist traps in Myanmar, like Bagan or Inle, Keng Tung does not see a lot of tourists. In fact, on my flight to Keng Tung I was the only foreigner! It makes it very adventurous. I had a very good guide- Sai Sai-... More

I have had a fantastic time visiting various villages around Kengtung and will post the contact details of my guide. I would like to recommend him for a number of reasons. -He is a great motorbike driver, which is very reassuring when you are travelling on the back -He speaks the languages of the various ethnic groups we visited -Great...
