Don’t go unless you enjoy noise and crowds. The street is full of small shops selling overpriced touristy stuff - same as in every popular China tourism destination. Only head down here if you are targeting a particular restaurant

This was really the only disappointing part of our tour in China. After seeing a wonderful evening show on the Li river we headed for our restaurant on West Street. During the day, when we passed through it earlier, it seemed ok, but at night we were bombarded by huge crowds, noise and confusion. Though we felt safe, this was not at all what we expected to encounter and unless you are into loud music, bars, and gaudy tourism, I would stay away. We would happily visit China on a future occasion again, and liked other things we saw in Yangshuo, but West Street is definitely not one of them. Despite recommendations in guidebooks, I would skip this. There are many better things to do with your time in China.

It's hard to say good or bad in many respects because it is what you would expect for a pedestrian street that is a tourist attraction.

There are many similar shops that sell trinkets and food, which isn't that much different than other tourist spots but there are some gems here and there. This is not a must see, but it's a good way to kill some time if you want to wander and people watch.

One of the big perks is that it has a range of Western food options. A plethora of pizza places and craft pubs. So if you want something that isn't Chinese there are many options. The Starbucks and Watsons is helpful too!

If you get off the main street you will find more interesting shops and a tangle of interesting places.

We went when it was off-season and there were few people around. It might be overwhelming during the high season, but I can't speak to that, but this won't make or break your visit and there are certainly many more fun things to do before you land here, but if you want to stroll and be aimless its a good option.

We went there on new years eve. The lighting, ambience, music.. everythingwas perfect. In general the street had lot of stores and was most happening place in Yangshuo. If not staying inside reserve, better to stay here.

I was last here 23 years ago when the only tourists were young western backpackers taking a break from their china travels to relax, eat chocolate banana pancakes and drink real coffee. Very quiet and sleepy with few tourist shops. Now it is as many have said a somewhat tackly low end tourist trap. A once walk through is enough. The side streets do have some interesting shops and cafes but quite a few seem to have died due to COVID.

There’s not much to see here. There are some shops all selling the same thing. The sidewalks are entirely too small and is not safe as cars and scooters go speeding by. I usually like night markets and street fairs and food, but this place has no charm or feel, just a gross street. Stay away especially if you have a family with small children.

This is often referred to as "Foreigner's Street," but with COVID-19, the majority of sightseers are residents of China. The street was originally formed over 1,400 years ago. Lots of ancient buildings, although restored over the years. Especially fun with the evening crowds. Lots of restaurants and other eateries, and souvenir shops.

Are we really in Yangshuo County? In sharp contrast to the peaceful surrounding mountain area and the slow flowing Yulong River, West Street, especially in the evening is busy. The street is jammed with shops, eateries, bars, and cafes. Good place to chill out and enjoy the atmosphere.

Awesome place with fantastic eateries and walkways. Almost all international eateries are available. Shopping may be a little expensive however a great place to walk around with your friends/ loved one. The famous fish beer on the street is a must try. A must visit during the evening as day time it’s like any other street full of shops.

Description: Yangren Street (foreigner street) or more commonly called West Street, looks basically like Bourbon Street in New Orleans without the class, vodoo, or the cool French architecture. There are a lot of places to haggle with people and get cheap scarves (10-30 yuan) and lots of other fun doodads. Along the way there are also various restaurants that promise you the world, including everything from pizza to Kung Pao Chicken. There are also a healthy selection of bars, although don't expect to go dancing in most of them, since that's not common practice.

What I liked: I liked going to the far back alleys away from the main road, because you can be a much more successful haggler there. The shopping is phenomenal, and you can get decent North Face jackets, for instance, for around 160 yuan. Bracelets and earrings are around 10 yuan. Cute little change-bags 10 yuan or less. As always, don't forget to haggle! They normally triple the price so that even if you half their asking price they still rip you off. For example, North Face jackets started at 600 yuan.

What I liked least: The food. The food around here is awful, both Western and Chinese food alike. I even tried some of the restaurants Lonely Planet recommended like Kelly's Bar, and they were only slightly better than the norm. The food is overpriced (40-200 yuan is a lot for Chinese standards), the quality is awful (loose hamburger patties that taste like meat paste, milk shakes with all milk and no ice cream, and "spaghetti" made with cooked noodles and a few boiled tomatoes mixed in), and the service is horrible. I sat in a restaurant on the main drag called Rose's (or something similar) That, despite the cold, seated me at a table in front of the door and repeatedly left it hanging open despite me asking them to keep it closed. I was freezing and miserable.

Tips from the Locals: I have not tried them yet, but I was recommended these restaurants if you absolutely HAVE to eat here: Riley's cafe, Club 98, Kelly's Café and Chao's Noodles.

Only bathrooms seem to be KFC and McDonald's, although if you eat at a restaurant you can go there.

Bring: 1. Your best haggle game-face
2. A money belt, or somewhere to keep your valuables extra safe.
3. A compass or map to help you guide yourself through the narrow streets.
4. Your best sense of humor
