My husband and I have been thinking about visiting this Summer Palace for a long time. We are so glad we came. We came here on 10/19 and really enjoyed this UNESCO site. We also appreciate the hospitality of people in Chengde. They are friendly...More

It may have been our guide but I didn't get much out of the museum section where you first enter the park. The grounds were far more interesting with small temples/houses dotted around the lake. There was one area where some of the locals were...More

If you are in Beijing and have some days left, I recommend Chengde as one of the destinations. But you have to stay at least, 1 night. The Summer Resort is a very beautiful place, with a lot of temples/buildings left from the last dynasty....More

This Mountain Resort needs to be visited. It is a totally different style from Beijing Summer Palace. The best is to go early morning to have a more quiet walk through the huge park.

I have read that visiting the mountain resort can be disappointing after having seen the palaces in Beijing - well, we were actually in Chengde first, still, I found this place rather unspectacular. It is certainly a piece of Chinese history, but the buildings are...More
