If you are around the area you need to see it. One of the most amazing things I've seen. Make sure you have enough time to truly enjoy the carvings on the mountain. You can take bus 81 back and forth from downtown, it's only 2 yuan each way.

Excellent and not to be missed if you are close. A fair way to walk but not an issue. The nr 1 place to visit in and around Luoyang.

Truly amazing. Really lovely setting. Astounding that there is such a special collection of Buddhas carved into a mountainside. Truly a must see.

Though it was freezing cold, the place was worth a visit. Amazing Buddha sculptures in thousands. For those interested in the details, voice guide in English is available via WeChat download. However, I find the presentation a bit slow and boring. Those who don't mind reading, there are guided card at each of the main attractions. Need to climb fair... More

I took a day trip from Xi'an with some girls from the hostel. We didn't see any other Western tourists, which made it a really "authentic" experience. There's quite a bit of walking, so if you're not keen on walking for a few hours (up and down some stairs), then maybe only do a portion of the grottoes.

I first heard of Longmen grottoes when searching for the more famous Shaolin temple. However, I'm glad for the reviews on trip advisor, this attraction alone is worth a trip to Luoyang. The guide Lisa recommended on trip advisor was excellent. She recommended the best way to travel from Zhengzhou was by train, picked us up from the train station... More

In my opinion, China's most under-rated attraction are its Buddhist grottoes. For me, they eclipse the Great Wall as an historical attraction. The Longmen Grottoes are one of the truly great Buddhist caves of China and a day here will certainly be memorable. A whole limestone rock face is honeycombed with thousands of small and large niches. Many of them... More

The statues was amazing. The grotto lies on both sides of a river and the entire landscape is very scenic. We went during low season so there weren't many people so it felt really intimate and I was just in complete awe at the size of the statues. Definitely worth a visit.

A historic site that is a must see! The 10,000 Buddhas are amazing. Some of the Buddhas are 8 stories tall, and so stunningly artistic. You also will see and meet people who are on pilgrimages there to honor Buddha and worship. It is stunning what ancient people were able to do. You will also witness what careless, thoughtless people... More

Ancient Buddhists' art this old is definitely worth a 5-stars! I stayed at Dongshan hotel which provides free shuttle to just outside the bus terminal; so going to the Grottoes was easy albeit with some walking to the main entrance. The trick is to start early - the morning lights and little/no crowd at that time is well worth the... More
