Truly amazing place showcasing religion, politics and social culture(s) intertwined. Learnt that the V hand signal means heroism and depicted in one of the great carvings was developed 2000 years ago in China! Take a bus there, it's efficient and as smooth running as a taxi from my experience.

The site is easy to get to and every thing there is so well organized, You want to pay the extra 5 bucks for the electric bus to get you cloase to the site because it was a long walk there and you have a lot more walking and climbing once you got there. This is the one place you... More

This monument requires quite a bit of walking and climbing steps if you are to see the statues properly. The signage doesn't include much English, so you would want to rely on a local English-speaking guide to fully understand the history. Combine it with a visit to Luoyang's famous gardens.

We arrived Luoyanglongmen around 10.30 and we left luggage at the train station (30 rmb/bag) and bargained a cab to take us to Longmen grottoes for 25 rmb. The entrance fee is 100 rmb/person and it is a one way walking route starting from the west side which 90% of the highlight of this place are here! Please keep your... More

There is so much to see. Lots of caves with sculpure inside. Too bad most sculptures were damaged. Lots of crowds going to the site. The ticket is RMB100 and there is 50 percent for elderly age 60 above. You can spend one full day there as the area is big and there is nearby temples that you can visit.

Great place for a family stroll. Really nice scenery, and some impressive views. Only issue is groups of Chinese pointing fingers at foreigners and wanting to shoot them a photo!!!

It was very hot and crowded. The grotto and surrounding area were impressive. To visit all caves and sites, you should be in good health.

We were really amazed by the carvings on the wall of the mountains. This place is huge & really nice to walk along the Yihe River looking at all the statues that were carved onto the rock. Highly recommended to visit.

After visiting Xi'an and Shaanxi Province, I went to Luoyang to visit Longmen Grottoes, White Horse Temple and Shaolin Temple. Since I didn't speak Chinese, I decided to ask 'Spring' (a private tour guide) to bring me to the desired places. Visiting the ancient Longmen Grottoes was amazing. I was impressed by the more than 2300 grottoes and 100.000 statues.... More
