A must see place while in Central China, its absolutely spectacular, the carvings, the statues, the caves, the scenery around you and the river along the side of the mountain is incredible. As a traveller's tip please use the electric bus and pay to be taken from the main entrance down to the grottoes entrance as the walk is very... More

The Longmen mountain with it's impressive grottoes is the very interesting and unusual place of the history of buddhist religion in China. Many artificial grottoes were digged in the mountain by order of Chinese Imperor family members and other honorable people. The huge stone statures of Buddhas exhibit the beauty of ancient chinese art and skill of artists. There are... More

I do love the scenery of Longmen mountain especially with the river gives you lovely breeze and the boat rides, but be careful once you on the boat ride, make sure that they go back to the Buddha statues or the mountain. The Buddhas in the caves are gorgeous especially the ones with lots of steps. Disabled people need attention... More

The Long Men grottoes are the main attraction in Luoyang and stretch on both sides of the river, although there are about 10 major ones on the main bank. Very impressive. Follow with a visit to the Luoyang museum. Warning: a lot of steps.

At a distance of about 25 kms from Luoyang, you come upon this place with a lake, a humble river and hills on both sides of water. Yoy definitely need an English speaking intepretor to explain to you all needful information (but please make sure that she talks not that quick her Chinese - english, so that you may absorb... A beautiful day in Luoyang during the International Peony Festival. Take an English-speaking guide and walk/climb to see the grottoes and Buddhas, then walk across the bridge over the YI River to the ferry back down the river.

Nature, history, art all at the same place. You caneasily spend half to a full day here. It is better that you carry some food and water. However, if you are okay with local simple food, noodles etc. you will find a lot of choices.

This site is very impressive and sad at the same point. The cave or rock carvings are very impressive (shear size, detail, etc) but many of them have been desecrated which is very sad to see (some missing heads or altogether destroyed). Can get here by public bus (but it takes a while - avoid rush hour). His is easily... More

The workmanship that was put into this is just amazing, And make the effort to go if your on a tour the bus will take you there, otherwise bus or taxi. I used the overnight train from Beijing to come to Luoyang and well worth the trip.
