Four young girls were killed when a Ku Klux Klan bomb exploded in this church in 1963. The girls are remembered with a shrine in the crypt where they died, and a vibrant stained glass window donated in sympathy by the people of Wales adorns the historic church.

It was perfect how the museum flowed right into this church. I'm so glad they were next to each other so we could experience it all together. It was very simply presented and the people there were wonderful. The film was moving and well done....More

What history! Glad to have had the opportunity to see it. Sad part of U.S. events during Civil Rights movement.

This wasn't my first visit, but every time I'm in Birmingham I stop by. This church is full of history that is portrayed through pictures and other artifacts. It's such a pleasure bringing a history lesson to life.

We visited the 16th St Baptist Church, as well as the Civil Rights Institute and adjacent park on a school field trip with about 20 seventh and eighth graders. All of us were impacted. To stand at the site of the cowardly bombing that led...More

It was a great moment in history to share with family that isn't taught in school in today's society.

This church is beautiful inside and should be visited by all outside and local visitors. The church is a reminder of a terrible tragedy in Birmingham so long ago. I visit each Good Friday as the pastor of my church along with other local pastors...More

You may have seen the documentary or the event of the bombing. However there is nothing like seeing history like this first hand. We both were totally overwhelmed as soon as we visited the church. It is a moving experience in civil rights history that...More

The church has a tour ministry that provides a talk, a tour, and a movie about the bombing that took place there that killed 4 young girls. It was moving, interesting and unbelievably, free!

This Baptist Church should be part of any visit to Birmingham. It is a very powerful and moving experience to see the spot where four young girls died in a dastardly bombing. This church is filled with history and memories of the Civil Rights movement.

You have to call the church. The phone number is on their website. Look under tours. They schedule for the middle of the day during the week and not sure about Saturdays. Obviously no tours on Sunday. Absolutely do not... More

The tour of the church doesn't take very long, I believe it maybe self guided. There was an information number you could call at one time. Here is the church's phone number (205) 251-9402
