The place is very worn down. Condition looks very bad, broken paper lantern, smelly toilet, torn wood etc. looks like nobody is up keeping the place.

This was the only disappointment during our visit to Dali. The entrace fee is 52 RMB and it gives you nothing in return but a tacky and messy look at an attempt to create a filmy atmosphere. The minority handicrafts that should be for sale there were more of the same junk you find all over the region (pashmina, selfie... More

Without a fix itinerary, the first thing I wanted to visit is the Tian Long Ba Bu movie city which is located uphill near the ancient city. Inside the movie city, immediately went to look for a costume rental shop where for RMB30 per outfit, you get dressed up including headpiece and ancient clothes seen in well known period movies.... Go if you have time to spare, otherwise give it a miss. It is built for a television series with no historical value. About 30 mins from town.Entrance fee about Rmb 52. A very huge place but some of it are dipilidated because of neglect.

No interest here, however you will have to buy the ticket if you want to take the cable car to Cangshan... not much to see there as this is not an historic site but artificially built for the film industry.
