Overview
More
Shuhe is a small village a couple miles to the north of Lijiang, in Yunnan province. It has similar old architecture as Lijiang with similar places to buy Naxi woven cloth and products from local artisans. A major advantage over Lijiang is that it is relatively unknown so the streets are much less crowded and food and lodging is cheaper. In addition to woven goods, there are stores selling wood carvings, Naxi style pottery and silver filigree jewelry. There was an elderly artist whose paintings were all done with the edge of his thumb producing quite astonishing images.

Despite being a peak holiday period whenever we’ve wandered down to Shuhe it’s been lovely and certainly not overcrowded - we’d highly recommend a visit!

We visited in late afternoon late Dec 2017 right after checking into Pullman hotel which is not far away. This is a smaller version and less lively version of the larger Lijiang Old Town, maybe cause it was off season. They both sell about the...More

Shuhe old town is smaller but yet quieter than the one in the main city centre. You can virtually buy the same things, enjoy a drink or meals by the canals in a more peaceful setting. Food there were not that great but Worth a...More

You'll find the same shops selling the same stuff as lijiang old town. There are a few additional sights (tea horse road museum, horse rides, temple) that might make the trip worthwhile, but not a must see destination.

The place requires an entrance fee. Very vibrant old town, full of shops selling scarves, flower pastries, silver jewelleries and other souvenirs. The architecture of the houses and canals are worth seeing. It's a very scenic place to the point that a lot of quaint...More

Horse riding is available here, so is horse dung. Shops are looped over and over again, and this place caters only to tourists, few locals shopping here. Could have been better.

This is another old town in Lijiang but a quieter and smaller one. Smaller size, and less people and less commercialized compared to Lijiang old town. Nice place to spent time when you have time to spend in Lijiang.

This region abounds with "ancient" or "old" towns. Mostly they aim to separate Chinese tourists from their money by selling them primarily meals and cheap clothing. There's nothing or very little that is "ancient" about them, but they do have street with uneven stones and...More

After visiting many old towns we were let down by this one. It is just a small less crowded version of all the others we had seen.

This old town is another old town in Lijiang. Just like in Lijiang but smaller size, and less people. But still, this is a lovely and quiet old town. Nice place to spent time when you have time to spend in Lijiang.
