This is my 2nd visit, a decade apart before there was "Impression Lijiang". That was a full house then and tonight it's less than 30% full. The music is as good, well reserved materials since Tang and Song Dynasty. Mr Xuan, leader of the band since he got out of 20+ years from the labor camp of the cultural revolution... More

The daily concert of Naxi Music is one of the most remarkable things I have ever heard. Ancient songs played on antique instruments by very elderly musicians, who buried their instruments to preserve them during the cultural revolution. I promise you, you have never heard anything like it!

The music performed by the Naxi Orchestra is a phenomenal experience. The performers, who are carrying an ancient cultural torch forward, play music from past dynasties on antique instruments.

We absolutely wanted to attend a performance by the Naxi Orchestra. Many of the musicians are above 70, some above 80 and the oldest 84 years of age. The program consists of very old ceremonial music pieces, which may not appeal to everyone. Yet, we considered it a very worthwhile visit.

The owner of the guest house I stayed at suggested this show and I was happy to go to the show. It has many musical instruments that are local so the sounds are new to the ear. They explain the show before it starts this is in English and Chinese. I bought a music CD and yes when I came... More

I wanted to see this performance because of all the rave reviews, and I felt it would be a moving cultural experience. But at the risk of being branded a cretin, I was not enamored. In fact, I got rather bored. I appreciate the history and cultural significance of the music, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the various instruments... More

Have been here six years ago and listened to the performance. This time they changed the numbers and the performance is becoming better. Hope they publish more music albums.

A wonderful evening spent here enjoying a performance on musical instruments that have been carefully handed down through the generations. A handful of the musicians are octogenarians and most are in their 70's. The orchestra plays on stage with each piece introduced in Mandarin and English. The music played have been handed down through the dynasties and some are hauntingly... More

If you do anything in Lijiang you must see the Naxi Concert. Even before the musicians arrived we were impressed by the colourful embroidered silk stage hangings and photos of the Naxi musicians decorating the covings. But completely transfixed by the haunting sound of the instruments and impressed by the musicians skill playing them. A far cry from the disco... More
