It's a well in the middle of the main square, just in the front of the church. Underneath the whole square is a giant tanker that used to serve the whole town with water

Situated within the main square & in fact easy to miss given the visual impact of the tower, church etc Need to reflect on its history & importance to village life

Enjoyed seeing the little square this well is located in. It's interesting to imagine how deep it must be to be able to draw water up into this very high hill town. Possibly leads to a cistern? You can miss strolling by it in your exploration of Motovun

Good to see the well has been kept all these centuries, the town has two of them. Such a lovely little town full of history.

I know some will think "it's nothing" an old well head in the center of a town square but here's the thing, this meant LIFE. Motovun, to the best of my knowledge and that of the tourist board, has never been captured by an invading army. So that well has meant that the citizens of Motovun have been safe, they... More

This certainly is not like the wall in Dubrovnik by any means, but we still had a great time. For anyone into land surveying, there are some pretty old survey markers along the wall walkway. Going for walks is always like being on a treasure hunt!
