- 2extreme4U58,718 contributionsBeautiful viewThe Cathedral of St. Lawrence or Katedrala sv. Lovre is a famous cathedral from the 13th century with Romanesque-Gothic architecture. It is located on Trg Ivana Pavla II in the heart of the old town of Trogir. The entrance fee is €5, but this includes the bell tower, which is accessible via stairs and from which you have a great view. It is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The main portal is the famous and worth seeing "Radovan's Portal".Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 January 2024

The portal in which the statues of two lions and the figures of Adam and Eve stand out is beautiful. The 15th century Baptistery and, above all, the Chapel of San Giovanni are valuable inside. From the bell tower you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 May 2024

It was very windy at the top but the views over the town were lovely. Take a look down the central hole from the top ! The Cathedral is very ornate for a small town.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 May 2024
- EdwigeFrance1,075 contributionsVery nice cathedral, beautiful work on the door.Cathedral that blends perfectly with the environment of Trogir Square. It is very well preserved like the Trogir set. Its door is beautiful, the work done on it is impressive. I regret that this place like most religious buildings in Croatia is paying. But otherwise, it really is a place to see and visit.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 July 2024
- fabito2015Brasilia, DF672 contributionsCatedral veneziana icônicaThe Cathedral of St. Lawrence occupies the leading place among all the churches of Trogir for various reasons. One of them, its architectural and artistic wealth. Besides, because entering this iconic church and climbing the bell tower offers the best view possible of the whole city. The Venetian cathedral has three ships. It's one of the best Croatian architectural works, built from the 13th to 15th centuries. In this building blend the stereotypes of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and until baroque. It houses valuable works of art since the time of its construction, in the Middle Ages.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 August 2024

St. Lawrence Cathedral is one of the most prominent monuments in the city of Trogir (Croatia). Its construction began in the vicinity of 1200 and was completely completed in 1589. It presents all architectural styles. The church has beautiful icons, like The Baptist of Lord Jesus, statues, an interesting pew and a room with ancient religious goods of church. The view from the bell tower is magnific. You will admire landscapes of Trogir that will amaze you. The old medieval city with roofs white and red colored next to the adriatic sea, sparkling in the light of the sun will remain for sure în your memory!Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 11 September 2024
- Bob B33 contributionsBeautiful cathedral but...Very nice cathedral with a beautiful door. But the best part remains on the 1st floor where you can contemplate the square and alleys of Trogir. For 5 euros, this is suitable, however there are few explanations (especially on the symbols present on the door). It's a shame.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2024

Really beautiful st. Peter's Church. The interior of the church is so beautiful. When I was in the church they playing on the organ. There are very beautiful interior of the church, then you climb on the top of bell tower, from which you can see the whole old part of the Trogir. When there are many tourists we should be more polite and tolerant to the others. We need to be more tolerant and slowly walk on the bell tower or off it. I relly recommend the tour.

Make sure to read up and admire the portal and its sculpture work. This is a great source of pride for the Croatian people. Then you should take the time (and pay the minimal fee) to enter and explore the interior. This is a Roman Catholic cathedral that dates back to 1213 when it was begun and has been added on to through centuries. You can climb the bell tower to get views of the area but we did not do this. Depending on your interest, you could spend a good deal of time here but you will want to have done some research or have a guide to fully appreciate it.

One of the first buildings you will notice in Trogir is The Cathedral of St. Lawrence. It is a UNESCO protected gothic masterpiece of art and it stands on the site of an ancient church destroyed by the Saracens. The Cathedral of St. Lawrence is an impressive one from the outside with a bell tower that obviously was built over a long period of time as seen by the variety of styles of architecture at the various levels
Although an entrance fee is charged to enter the church, it is well worth the modest 5E fee, I imagine that these architectural masterpieces are not easily maintained.
Work began in 1193, and lasted decades, involving dozens of artists. The three-aisled building has three semicircular apses. There are two entrances. The side door, known as “the count's door”, is very simple and dates from 1213.
My favourite part of the Cathedral was the other door - a magnificent Romanesque door under an atrium, and carved around 1240 by the Dalmatian sculptor Master Radovan – not surprisingly referred to as Radovan’s Portal. The portal to the Cathedral is intricately carved which we later found out had been recently restored beautifully.
The pilasters on both sides of the door, represent saints in Byzantine style, with scenes from the months of the year carved into the middle pilasters.
Two stone lions, one on each side of the door, support statues of Adam and Eve, who seem embarrassed by their nakedness.
Above the door you will find a beautifully carved relief of the Nativity and in the semi-circles are episodes from the life of Jesus. Finally, above a small sloping roof there is a small statue of St. Lawrence.
Most of my guidebooks described the interior of the church as gloomy, but I just found it packed with numerous masterpieces. Take a look at the posted pictures which have detailed descriptions.
Finally, take the time to climb the soaring bell tower, started in 1213 and only finished several centuries later, thus combining several different artistic perspectives.
The climb started out with the typical stone spiral staircase, but at the top it actually was a ladder straight up to the opening in the floor where the bell was located. When we got up to the top there was only one other couple there so we were able to easily get views out of all four sides of the tower providing us impressive views. It was a very clear day making the climb up well worth it. Going down was a different story with no one wanting to give way. I cannot even imagine what it like is during the height of tourist season.

One of the most notable features of this cathedral is the main doorway providing access to the interior of the cathedral. Yes technically you can see it from outside by peering through the iron railings but this highly decorated Romanesque Portal, which dates from 1240, is best viewed up close.
Then inside the cathedral is three narrow knaves and houses some good decorative chapels such as The Chapel of St. Ivan. At the end of the central nave is the high altar dating from the 14th century which is flanked by some impressive carved wooden choir seats, dating from the 15th century.
Be sure to visit the small sacristy of the Cathedral, which is used as the treasury. It houses an interesting collection of golden and silver objects, such as the large candle sticks used on ceremonial occasions, church vestments, written materials, and the coats of arms of the bishops of Trogir.
But one key reason to paying the entrance fee is that it gives you access to climb the bell tower from the top of which you get excellent panoramic views over Trogir.

A fascinating cathedral including a spectacular carving at the front entrance (worth reading more about this on a guide book).
Very reasonable entry price of EUR5 including the tower which can be climbed (equivalent to about five flights of stairs). The top part of the tower involves climbing up a see-through metal staircase and at the very end what is best described as a loft ladder! Too much for my vertigo given the drop below but the rest of my family enjoyed it and said the views were well worth it!

The Cathedral and Bell Tower are in the main square and are a stunning experience in themselves. Climb to the top of the Bell Tower for magnificent views over Trogir and the surrounding area. Entrance to the Bell Tower costs 30 Kuna and it's 25 Kuna to go into the Cathedral.

There were four favorite parts of the cathedral for us. They were Radovan's Portal, St. Ivan's Chapel, the Baptistery, and the reliquary room. And there was also an interesting in-floor tomb that we did a little research into because it was so intriguing.
As Radovan's Portal and St. Ivan's Chapel have their own TA headings, they will not be covered here.
The Baptistery was built in about 1467 and there is a very interesting relief above on the wall. It depicts Jesus standing ankle-deep in the Jordan River for his baptism. It looked quite shallow and was at odds with our perception of a "river." John pours water from a cup on the head of Jesus and angels flank the side of Jesus (one of whom is holding clothing for Jesus. A dove is over the head of Jesus and the Holy Father is at the top, above the dove, looking down.
The reliquary room is a museum of religious art and artifacts. The skill and precision in crafting the delicate silver and gold figurines impressed us immensely. And is the case with reliquaries, there are holy relics containing body parts of saints. These include the forearm of St. Severinoi (1646) and the hand of Bishop Orsini/Trogirski (15th century). The forearm is in a glass tube nd the hand is in a display case held by an angel.
The interesting floor tomb took a little work to decipher but it the date of 1348 refers to the death of

This impressive Roman Catholic cathedral is a triple-naved basilica constructed in Romanesque-Gothic style. The entrances are particularly interesting with their ornate statues, particularly the Portal of Radovan. Its a long way up to the top of the bell tower but you are rewarded with some fantastic views of the old town. We were luck enough to witness the aftermath of a local wedding, complete with singers and dancing!

Worth the view.
When away, for us, it's important to go and visit the history of a town/city. This is one to go and see, even if you're not effected by stories of the past, it's good to go and stop by and see.

The climb was relatively easy, just be prepared for steep narrow space, especially at the top. The views from the top were fantastic and the tower itself was interesting. It doesn’t take long to get up and down so I would recommend it if you are of a normal fitness level, of higher.

Trogir is a nice old city, to walk in the narrow street, there is a campenila in the cathedral and staires to go up, the panoramic view around is very nice, maybe the chandlier is in the cathedral.

I would like to know what is the admission fee to the Trogir Cathedral and if there is a separated fee to see the treasury, baptistery and access to the bell tower.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I think the cost is €3.50 for entry, which covers entry to the church sections and the bell tower. Well worth it. Our best photos are from the bell tower!
