Fun shopping experience. Good source of textiles, regional jewelry and regional art objects. Plenty of good restaurants to choose from in the area. Really enjoyed the day there.

Otavalo is a city that is surrounded by volcanoes, mountains, lakes, corn crops and located north of Quito. Overall it is a magical setting full of color and beauty, with very friendly and charismatic people. Where the city is a mixture of history, customs, culture and folklore. It has a wide ethnic diversity. The main tourist attraction of Otavalo is... More

Busiest Indian market in Ecuador. Country people will come down from the mountains around to sell their items. Plaza itself has a permanent market 7 days a week. But on Saturday (morning), couple of streets leadding there are also closed to traffic and full of mobile merchants selling panama hats (onlyh made in Ecuador), lama sweaters (a must), pan flutes,...... We stopped for a quick drink before our whale watching tour. The server was very good and split a hot chocolate for the kids without us asking. The live music was nice and the food looked good. Definitely worth trying again.

I love markets, and there ar many good ones in South America...however, for all the hype, I was a bit disappointed in this market. Beautiful trip just getting here, but the market (on a Thursday) was ok. Many of the sweaters for sale, supposed hand-made by locals were exactly the same as those I has seem in Peru....and I didn't think... More

Nothing is more interesting than a town square filled with vendors of indigenous peoples ' crafts and art. I was able to enjoy bargaining for silver jewelry, paintings, pottery, musical instruments and alpaca shawls. The vendors were beautiful to behold and kind in demeanor. I was very glad to have made this visit. Go on Saturday when the market is... More

During the week, the market stretches an area the size of about 3 hockey rinks. On Saturday, it expands to an area of 6 blocks by 6 blocks! Both side of the street, and down the middle too! Plus a live animal market. Plus a huge food market and eating area with local foods. Everything you could want in local... More

wonderful place to buy gifts for friends and for personal memories. the spirit of the market is not to be missed. the original food market is several blocks away--see the market before it moves to a conventional site...

Otavalo has the best market I have ever been too. Especially on Saturdays, this market takes up a huge plaza as well as many streets in town. The choices and prices of the items are amazing. You will love shopping here!
