The Roatan Institute for Marine Science (RIMS) is ideally located for marine study on the northwest coast of Roatan where over 30 miles of fringing and barrier reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and shoreline are home to an astonishing profusion of life.

Founded in 1989, the primary objective of this facility is the preservation of Roatan's natural resources through education and research. In the past decade RIMS has established itself as a dedicated teaching institution. Our facility is visited year-round by colleges, universities and high schools from abroad to study tropical marine ecosystems and the bottlenose dolphins we house at our facility. Many programs are for academic credit, some are in conjunction with other field research stations, and others are simply introductory courses to the ecology of coral reefs in the Caribbean.

I traveled with a group of very experienced divers to Roatan for a week of diving and had a great time and experienced some wonderful dives until this one. We started out by going into an area to listen to a trainer talk about dolphins. The young lady was soft spoken and hard to hear, so I'm not sure what... More

My husband and I did the dolphin encounter. It wasn't cheap but it was totally worth it. We did have to wait around for quite some time before we got started but after that it was a great! We were broken in too small groups and paired up with a dolphin and a trainer which makes for a more personal... More

Very fun activity. Expensive but worth the cost. Had a great time with my young kids. Dolphins were great. Very gentle and playful with the kids. A fun experience overall. We didnt stay at Anthonys key but enjoyed the day there.

If you love dolphins, but worry about the care of the dolphins, this is the place to go. Dolphins are kept in pens with low walls and we were told that dolphins often jump out of the pens, go and "hang out" with wild dolphins in the ocean and later come back. Dolphin swims and the amount of interaction that... More

Within the property know as Anthony’s Key Resort, is the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences, which was established around 1990 with a mission to preserve Roatan’s natural resources, and offered educational materials and a place for research into tropical marine life, as well as bottlenose dolphins in a separate facility. Known as “RIMS” the facility is near extensive coral reefs,... More

Wow!! This exceeded my expectations! You can tell how much the trainers love their job and especially the dolphins. I would highly recommend this, if you have a chance!

Wow what a slick operation. Can't say enough about what a great experience this was. It's very well run and organized. The wife was estatic and it was her highlight of our trip. It's worth the cost for sure. Dolphins are insane creatures. Our minds were blown!

We spent maybe an hour in the institute. There is a lot of standing and reading. I would have paid more to have a guide, or something to liven the place up. There are a lot of mounted fish, exhibits, & things to read. In another area there is history of the area. It would have been nice if they... More

We were staying at the resort and diving every day. We booked the dolphin encounter for our last day and really loved the experience. We wished it had lasted longer because we loved being close to the dolphins. Trainers and staff seem really committed. It was great to learn that the dolphins are not locked up but allowed to swim...
