We came here on the recommendation of our tour guide. The beach is relatively small and was very quiet on the day we came, perhaps because it had rained that morning. For much of the time there was just our family and a couple of...More
We found the snorkeling here to be just as awesome but quite different than at West Bay. Facing the water, it is easy to access on your left side, and there is an area sectioned off for swimming, so boats will not be a problem....More
Half Moon Bay is a very pretty small stretch of beach. The snorkeling is not great, and the area full of dive boats heading in and out. Appeal is proximity to the local town, but there are many better places to stay on Roatan
With only 8 hours in Roatan and after a busy few days in other ports we wanted a very relaxing day. We began with a taxi ride through the beautiful lush jungle type roads to the West side and within about 35 minutes we arrived...More
If you don't want hustle & bustle while you're vacationing, then in my opinion, the best part of the island is Half Moon Bay. It's also definitely worth the trip to the other side of the island to visit Hole in the Wall. Captain Ed...More
I had a great time snorkeling in Half Moon Bay. I saw a spotted eel, lots of parrotfish, a few lobsters, and more. A woman who was coming out as I was starting my snorkel said she saw two sea turtles. The only issue is...More

Man I'm so sorry I don't get here very often and didn't see your question. I sure hope you enjoyed your trip to Roatan! We dive with Seagrape Plantation Dive Shop at the end of a West End and when we snorkel we rent gear from Seagrape or on the main drag in front of Half Moon at the Eco Park Conservation place and just walk into the water at Half Moon Bay and a short paddle away your on the reef, the left, or north side of a Half Moon Bay. The snorkeling is Great!
If your looking for a place to stay in the future, at Mangrove Dock Condos there's a three bed two bath condo that rents three night minimum called Sunrise Harbor. Check it out! It's beautiful and walking distance from everything in a west end yet quiet with its own fresh water pool and boat dick on the water!
Late but hope it helps for your next trip!

It is about 20 minutes from the cruise ship. You can go by taxi and the more people that pile into it the cheaper it is. Should cost about $5.00 each to go to West End. West Bay has nice beaches but Half Moon Bay in West End has a nice beach there too and more activity like walking down the main street which hugs the shore line. A must iis a visit to the Sundowner's bar on half moon bay. There is a bar right on the beach where you can go for a swim in the clear water then lie down on a long beach chair in front of the bar to quaff a cold beer or a cocktail or sit at the thatched roof bar an chat with the locals or tourists there. Snorkelling equipment is available for rent nearby and is quite nice on the left side of the bay. Enjoy!
