I was keen to visit the beach although it was a long drive from where we were staying but it was an event-filled journey.
For starters, we had a morning break at Kedai Kopi Hindi for nasi lemak, fried bee hoon, otak-otak (grilled fish paste) & tapai ubi (fermented tapioca). Needless to say, the nasi lemak was not really like the ones we were used to at home (Singapore) -- the secret to nasi lemak is in its sambal (chilli paste) and this one hasn't really got it to a T. The bee hoon tasted quite good, though, with additions like fried chicken & prawns with petai. The real attraction at the coffee shop are the otak-otak & tapai ubi. The otak-otak is freshly grilled & served to you in sets of 20 (but you only pay for what you eat). The meat is tasty - just like the ones we have at home but not as spicy. The tapai ubi is heavenly - soft & sweet with the right dash of sour. It's wrapped in the same leaves that are used to wrap tempeh (fermented soya beans) -- something you don't usually get to see anymore.
Along Trikora Beach, we were treated to another unique experience -- boat builders at work right there on the sands. For city-dwellers like me, the mish-mash of wood & floaters had a special appeal. Just take a look at the pictures below.
After about an hour (or more) on the road, we arrived at Casa Italia at Cabana Beach for the famed pizza. It was a humble set-up -- a quaint shack that didn't exactly look like a pizzeria. We were told that the proprietors came from Italy and had decided to set up their original Italian pizza on the beach. We ordered their popular Pizza Cornet (beef pizza), Pizza Bawang (onion pizza) & Pizza Tuna (tuna pizza). They are medium-sized thin crusted pizza -- more like a crispy naan than the thick crusted pan pizza from Pizza Hut or Sarpinos or Canadian Pizza. It was not as cheesy as I would have liked and the filling was not exactly generous.
The beach itself was beautiful. The sand was really white & the water very clear. It was low tide when we came so, while waiting for our pizza, we had the pleasure of walking to a little rocky island for a quick photo opp followed by a relaxing walk on the beach collecting seashells.
The pizza didn't take too long to come -- we simply munched on them at the open tables at the beach. There were also cabanas along the beach if you prefer to sit there. Be advised though -- you might want to eat your pizza quickly unless you want the flies to attack them first while you enjoy the surrounding view.

I didnt expect much when I first arrived at Tanjung Pinang and heard about Trikora. I thought that it wouldnt be any different with the beaches that we have in Malaysia. But, I was totally wrong. Trikora beach was amazing! The water was clear and at almost turqoise. And, it is very clean and not crowded at all. It is truly a hidden gem of the East Indies.

We arrived in Bintan after a great ferry boat ride from Singapore yesterday morning. The weather was perfect, and we quickly organized a really nice taxi ride to Trikora Beach. We stopped for breakfast at the Madu Tiga beach and resort for breakfast. The food and service were wonderful. The staff were friendly and very, very welcoming. Everything looked like we were in for a very pleasant day trip. Boy were we wrong!!! By 11:00am, the tide started to go out, and within 90 minutes had receded by more than 75 meters and revealed a beach choked with plastic, garbage and refuse. In my 40+ years of international travel, I have never seen such a shocking abuse of nature. For as far as the eye could see, along a strip of white , tropical sand beach coast, was hundreds of meters of garbage and abandoned beach resorts. The local population and the local government did not seem to care that what should be a dream spot of Instagram photo locations had been reduced to oil soaked sand carpeted by tens of thousands of empty plastic bottles, shopping bags stuck to tree limbs, beer bottles, human waste and foam containers. A true ecological disaster. Why is this not being addressed? Why would the local population, who live from tourism, not clean this beach? Adding to all of this was mother nature. Low tied starts before noon and only returns to high tide in early evening. This means that swimming during the day is near impossible, as there is no water deeper than the top of your foot for at least 200+ meters from the beach front. Trikora beach, Bintan Island, Indonesia, is an international shame. If you come here, do so with cleaning up in mind. Bring tens of thousand of bags to take away all of the garbage that covers every square millimeter of what should be a world class destination.

I am a locals and I have been there lots of times. I always bring my outsider friends to this beach also.
there are a long stretch of beach and locals name it , Trikora beach 1 - 5.
For me personally, I found out that the 3rd is the best. You can swim, relax at the beach while drinking fresh coconut pluck from the trees and sun bathing if you wish.
The beach is not managed by government. If it were, it will be more beautiful. Sands is very fine.
Recommended time to visit this beach is mid year from april to august.
avoid going on Dec-Feb, usually it is because of monsoon season.
Distance from City to this beach is about 1hour car-ride.

Stayed in Bintan at Trikora Beach for 2 nights while on a business trip in Singapore. Exactly what I wanted. Away from the crowds and the big fancy resorts, very well designed with simple and beautiful natural material. Spacious rooms. Super friendly staff. Beautiful pool. Great meal. Hotels organises trips from an to the ferry (about 1h), whichever one you take. In short, this was a fabulous way to relax for a weekend after a busy week!

Trikora beach is one of famous public beach at bintan island. Whitesand and crystal clear brings peaceful mind. However due to this area mostly known by local people hence the facility and the cleanliness need to be improved. Should you like to taste fresh Rangak or seas-snail and shell you have to try on one of the local warong name 'Nemo' not far away on left side from the last intersection trikora road from the palm oil field. It has very special sambal sauce that sour and spicy would improve your appetite. However if you wish to see the clear crystal water i am not really recommended to visit during monsoon season that normally occured during Nov-March.

Trikora beach has been long famous in local community in Bintan. When I was small once a year we will go Trikora Beach on one of the Chinese festival day happened on June or July (kind of snack made by rice). And that time, I would catch or spear crabs and looked for shells on the beach.
Now day, Trikora beach still has its magnet for local tourist especially the white sand beach and natural rocks. There are 4 beaches in Trikora, we call it Trikora 1,2,3 and 4. In my opinion Trikora 3 is the most beautiful place compared to others. For people like to escape from city life, this is the best place for it.
There are more hotels and resorts across the way on beach side. You can choose according to your budget for these hotels and resorts. During monsoon season, Trikora beach also a good place for playing kite surfing with strong wind blowing. For you who have family also a nice place for relax and leisure. Just be careful when swimming on the beach for children, few of tourist had been drowned there.

We had the beach all to ourselves. Warm crystal clear waters, unspoilt natural sands. You may rent these hut frames to rest in, day rate is about 40,000 rupiah. Rudimentary bathing facilities are available for a small fee, with ice cold water pumped from a well. No food, bring your own and oixnic on the sands or in the platform hut.

It is one of unseen place in Indonesia. The Beaches are beautiful with white sand and few resorts at that area. I love that beaches so much and not many people goes there except local people. One hour driving from Tanjung Pinang city and not many vehicle move around. It is recommended place to be visited in Indonesia. The area is around 2 hours by speed boat from Singapore.

hello SKY , how to u do the inland travel ? book a car ? or bike ? how much per day ?
also the resort on agoda all so expensive but u mentioned is 40K a night rupiak.. almost $40.. who to contact the booking over there ? thank

I would suggest to take a package of guided tour for inland as public transport not that convenient yet. Staying at the resort (mostly on northern side) is indeed not cheap as this resort has been spoiled by Chinese and Singaporean. Cheap accomodation are around Tanjung Pinang
