Challenging hike, very muddy (high chance of rain) and not much chance of a view ( but you know that in advance of course, after all it's cloud forest). The surroundings are impressive, but not as far as impressive as the trek in las penas blancas I had done the week before. However this trek is lighter than the las... More

Not at all one of my favorite hikes and I give it 4* mainly for the feeling of accomplishment having completed the hike. For the most part, it rained all day and winds gusted to 50mph. At this time of year, my excellent guide (Omar, 21 years old from Balgue) told me Conception would be an easier hike. We were... More

Not an easy hike, but supposedly the easier of the two volcanoes on the island. It took about 9 hours total; climbing down is no less technical or time consuming as climbing up. Although treacherous, it is an accomplishment you will feel proud of, and if you are lucky, see monkeys in the cacao trees on the way up. Wear... More

There are tours available to El Mirador (lookout) or to the top. You will need a guide. It is a challenging walk as it is rocky steep and if it has been raining quite slippery. You can see two types of monkeys on the way. Worth it for the view

It's not easy and you won't be rewarded with a view at the top, but if you're up for a muddy scramble through an incredible cloud forest this is a great hike. The range of flora and fauna (howler monkeys, butterflies and more) is amazing. Our group took 4 hours to the lagoon and 4 hours back down, but a... More

The hike on Maderas Volcano to the waterfall is worth it. Make sure to get there early enough - they won't let you start the hike past 3:00 to make sure you get back before dark. I would recommend giving yourself plenty of time to swim and relax at the falls. It is a great place to take some snacks... More

Nice hike up the mountain, make sure you have a 4x4 car because the road that leads to the entrance to the trail is bad. We got up there and the waterfall is very nice but there wasn't much water. Overall it was worth it.

This is one of of the first adventures I went on while on Ometepe. We met with a local tour guide who took us on the shorter hike, which lasts about four hours and will cost around 150 cords. There is the option to hike all the way to the summit, but it's much longer at around eight hours and... More

We traveled to Ometepe just for a day, I had wanted to see this waterfall. There are two choices for doing this, drive your vehicle up a rickety road for 2km, then walk the 1km, which was $12 to do, or walk the whole 3km for $3 pp. We chose walk. We are fairly sporty people, but this was a... More
