For only 2€ you can climb the fortress and see the dungeons as well as the top level platforms. The view of the entrance of the bay is beautifull and I recommend you visit the place right before the sunset for the maximum experience.

The entry is 2 EUR. On the opposite side you can see the Prevlaka Peninsula of Croatia. Views are very nice also to the Herceg Novi beach.

We were met by a lovely gentleman charging us just a few Euros entry fee. Not to informative, but downstairs we could see a 15-minute video telling the story of Ottoman admiral Barbarossa wrestling the fort from the Spanish in the 1539 Siege of Castelnuovo. This made for some great imagination for our 5-year old and we could roleplay the history as we walked around. The bastion was built between the 14th and 17th centuries but owes its current look to an Austrian makeover in 1833.

The fort is small when you enter it. But it has great views. When you go down to the promenade you can actually see the scale of it. Worth the €2 fee for me.

Great way to spend an afternoon walking around the old Fort then a coffee or beer in the old town with its many restaurants and bars.

Please keep your expectations low. You are going to enjoy some absolutely amazing views but that’s pretty much it. No information/history or guidance but worth the few euros entry fee for the views alone.

The entrance is cheap, there is very little to see, but the views over the bay may be worth the effort all by themselves.

Not an awful lot to see but only 2 euros to get in so it remains a must visit place if only for the views over Herceg Novi harbour.

Forte Mare fortress offers truly beautiful views to its visitors. The cost of entering is a symbolic sum and is definitely worth going for a nice little stroll through the Old Town to this important historical site. In the summer months, the fortress is used in the evenings as an open air cinema, as well as for the Film Festival and, as such, has been a much loved and enjoyed venue over the years both by the locals and by the tourists. Some works have recently (in 2018) taken place in order to comply with requirements by the UNESCO (the permanent cinema screen has been taken down and the vegetation that was growing on the walls of the fortress has been tidied up and brought under control) as it is being considered to be offered UNESCO protection. It is a cultural heritage place. It is very memorable and it features on so many postcards from Herceg Novi too.
