The symbol of Podgorica and also the greatest river flowing through the Capital. Its deep riverbed, large rocks and icy temperatures are just some of the main characteristics of this mountain river. On its way through the Capital, Moraca also carved out many caves. It is 113 kilometres long, and it runs from north to south, flowing into the Skadar Lake.

In august just a little stream, not the beautiful river it can be in other times of year. Don't expect much of it in august.

A great place to chill on a hot summer day. The Moraca is accessible for a quick swim at multiple spots in and around Podgorica. Downstream of the Capital the water can get a tad murky.

There are a lot of bridges, from which you can make beautiful photos of Moraca. It's also good to swim there in a hot day (even in clothes).

We stumbled across a group of people enjoying the river and listening to music. Gutted we didn't have our swimsuit or towels, especially as it was 38 degrees!

Coming from Peje in Kosovo, we followed the river for about 50 km before arriving in Podgorica. The river is still fairly small over here but the canyon like shaping of the landscape up river is absolutely fenomenal.

The river gets low in the summer as you would expect but that leaves small pools on the side with little self contained worlds to explore tiny trout minnows and snails and micro miniature shrimp if you stare ling enough to see them. As dusk...More
