A must if you're staying in Montenegro. A beautiful and peaceful part of the world. Plenty of companies offer boat tours.

We visited due to Durmitor road being closed. It's a very calm lake. No real motor, boating or fast boats. Pretty to be surrounded by the mountains. A little village next to the lake. Not the prettiest like I've ever seen but it's not the worst I've ever seen.

End of April and Beginning of May the Sun is a lot more welcoming for Skadar Lake. The ambient temperature was excellent and the sights were very pleasant. I didn't get to see the King of the Lake, The Pelican, because I made this trip in the afternoon. The tour guide said the bird is more likely to be spotted in the morning.

Had been to Skadar with my fiancee. A beautifully romantic destination to visit in Montenegro. It is the largest lake in the world. It lies between Montenegro & Albania. The town is quite scenic with fort, a wine museum, Skadar boat excursions, restaurants & flora fauna. If you in Podgorica, I would recommend taking the train towards Bar-Sutomore. You'll have to get down at Virpazar & it's a 7 mins walk to the Town of Skadar. You can check train timings on the Montenegro train site. It's an affordable journey with beautiful views & the train experience in Montenegro.
We had booked a 2 hr private boat ride on Lake Skadar with Vladan. He was very knowledgeable, warm & pleasing host. He explained us about the history, flora, fauna, cuisine etc & plucked us the chestnut from the lake. Also he had arranged beverages wines, homemade Arak, Juices & water. He made sure that we enjoyed the ride & had a nice experience. Surprisingly he made sure we weren't scammed around the town & also awarded us with the tourist traps. So, I would recommend Vladan & he can be reached via Viber @ +381611834582.
At the end it was a memorable day trip to Lake Skadar.😊

A little interaction with the captain would have been better. 2 hours of just sitting in a boat, beautiful things to see but that's really all. When you arrive you're asked for an extra 4 euro per person for the park but nothing is explained as to why. Even if you were let off on one of the islands would be good. No explanation about the wildlife either.

Lake Skadar is an amazing place to visit in Montenegro. There are multiple boat tours that you can book from Virpazar. We did a boat tour of 6 hours and it was amazing. We saw great birds including kingfisher, pelicans, sea gull, different Herron species and more. Also we swam a couple of times. The lake is beautiful with amazing birdlife and great mountains around the lake which gives you great views throughout the boat ride. This was one of my highlights in former Yugoslavia.

Not only is Lake Skadar one of the biggest lakes in Southern Europe but it's also one of my personal favourites. What stands it apart from many others I've seen are the abundance of water lilies and unique rivers flowing in and out of it. These lilies cover sizable areas of water close to its shores and can make for super drone footage. The rivers also meander their way in and out of Skadar lending themselves to picture postcard views.

I took a boat trip on Lake Skadar. The lake was beautiful, carpeted with water lilies and you could see lots of different birds there. The surrounding mountains created a beautiful scenery.
We stopped at one place called Etno Selo Pješačac, where we had lunch and the people from the boat could spend some time on a small beach and swim in the lake.
The boat trip, including a stop for lunch, took approx. 4 hours. It was a very nice, relaxing spent time.

Beautiful place spoilt by scammers.
Scam as you arrive - do not pay for parking
Scam fake tourist information - selling boat rides and tours, There is one official Tourist Information office, in a building on the right before crossing the bridge
The boat rides maybe ok - I didn't do, but the view look good from the wine "museum" at the top of the hill and only EUR2.5. Also if you have a car drive up the hill for 5-6km.

Hi! Your story about Skadar lake is very impressive! Would like to ask your opinion...
What do you think, is it possible to spend about 3 weeks near the lake Skadar ? I'm going alone with my 8-year-old daughter, without a car. Generally we like to spend a month's holidays on the lakes, for example, in Lithuania or Slovenia, swimming, walking in the woods. Provided that a lake is picturesque and clean and there are routes for walking, it's worth it. So I want to know more precisely on Skadar Lake, whether one can swim in it, or it is swamped? Is there a forest where you can walk. Some children attractions? And in whole, would it be possible get acquainted with Montenegro without having a car? Would appreciate your answer.
