A MUST Visit Whilst Travelling Montenegro!
Jun 2021
We visited Plantaze Vineyard in June 2021 and it was an unforgettable experience - well worth a visit whilst staying in Podgorica.

Our host/guide/connoisseur's name was Boyun - a very friendly and extremely knowledgeable chap who really enriched our experience.

We opted for the tour of the cellar - which dates back to the Cold War and was previously used to store airplanes away from the NATO bombings of the 90s.

Boyun walked us through the history of the cellar, explaining why each of the wines are kept the way they are, and giving us some really interesting insights into the heritage of the Plantaze business.

After the tour, we moved to the tasting room - which appears more akin to a military strategy outpost, which really creates a unique experience within itself.

If you plan to do the tasting but have a hire car, I advise you to take a cab instead - the glasses are generous, and you'll likely be wanting to stay for more!

Thank you Boyun for your warm hospitality & expertise - and Plantaze for the fantastic wine we'll be repatriating with us to the UK!

Great experience! Bojan was very knowledgable and generous with the tastings. It’s a bit chilly in the cellar so bring a jacket!

Best Wine Tour!
Feb 2021
The Šipčanik winery is inside of a Yugoslavia era aircraft hangar that was partially destroyed by the NATO bombing in 1999. From 1999 to 2005 this building was left empty. The next year, the major winery of Podgorica, took over this place. Plantaže which is the largest single site vineyard in Europe turned this former aircraft hanger into Sipcanik winery.

We made reservations in advance, but still needed to tell the people what we wanted when we got there. This was not an issue though as we were able to get the tour we wanted and were the only guest in the wine cellar.

We booked an hour long tour that cost us 17 Euros a piece. Our Sommelier, Jovana, did a fantastic job. She showed us the comparison of the city to all of the vineyards of Plantaže on a model that they had inside. She also gave us a tour around the cellar to show us the oak barrels and their innox containers for storing wine. She explained to us the aging process behind wine and how the climate and soil of Podgorica allows them to grow their wine grapes all year long.

She also showed us how to properly hold a wine glass and look at its color against a white surface. She showed us the proper way to smell the wine and try to guess what kinds of fruits are in it. They also provided goat cheese, cow cheese, bread and their own olive oil to pair with he 5 wines we sampled.

Phenomenal Tour of Winery!
Sep 2020 • Couples
This was probably one of the best winery tour and wine tasting I've ever done anywhere in the World! From the moment we arrived, our sommelier and guide Jelena made us feel right at home!

She was so passionate about the Montenegrin wines, especially the wines that were produced there. She gave us a great overlook and history on the winery, as well as an outstanding wine tasting paired with some local foods.

We were so amazed on how amazing each wine was, especially considering the region. The tasting was so wonderful, and each pairing was a perfect match! We really loved the trout, as it was so flavourful! Jelena and Vesna took great care of us with each course/pairing we had. I can't say enough on how impressed we were with this wine tour. The winery, the setup, the atmosphere, and the wines were just SPECTACULAR! I can't recommend this place enough!

A beautiful way to spend €12
Mar 2020 • Solo
I had a really lovely little (€12 'bouquet') tour of this superb and very beautiful vineyard today. Even in the off-season they were open and happy to accommodate a solo traveller with no reservation. An easy 10 minute taxi ride (€8 each way approx) from Podgorica transported me to another world.

I learned a lot, was under no pressure to buy, (though there's a good range of decent wines available. Even the Vranac pro corde at only €5.40 was great and had won some impressive medals at international wine festivals. For a few euros more,I'm sure a really outstanding bottle could be had. They do red, white, rose, sparkling and sweet).

It's really nice to be supporting an excellent local product, using indigenous grape varieties, employing over 1000 people, and now exporting to more than 40 countries. A great Montenegran success story. I wish them well.

Memorable Wine Tour
Oct 2019
I just loved this tour experience. It's unique to many types of wine tours you will do. The tour is for one of the major wine producers in Montenegro, Plantaze. You walk into their giant cellar, which is a disused aircraft hangar. It's a cavernous storage for their beautiful wine. For EUR12, you can sample some of their whites and reds, along with a local cheese and some locally made olive oil. The tour guide was informative and dealt with the overly enthusiastic audience well, given the barrage of questions thrown at her. It's located just outside the capital and makes for a great activity whilst visiting the capital. They also offer other wines for tasting. You will also find that the prices at the cellar door are much cheaper than you will find in the supermarket, so stock up whilst here.

Beautiful winery and great tour experience

We stopped off here after seeing the signs for it on the road. So we showed up with no reservation and were greeted as we walked up and offered a short tour and tasting immediately. 6 EUR gets you a 15min walk through and tasting of their red and white wines. We were so impressed! The shop has a great selection of wines to take away too. Highly recommended!

Fabulous

I fell in love the minute I entered to this gigantic facility. There are hundreds of oak barrels, cellars in caves and wine tasting facility all under one roof. The place is spotless and clean. Price of wine is very reasonable. Must visit venue for wine lovers.

Top Highland Destination in Montenegro
May 2017 • Business
Although it is situated in the small country Montenegro, Plantaze owns the largest wine yard in one complex in Europe and it is the biggest producer of wine and table grapes in Montenegro and surroundings

Guests had their first strong impressions while visiting the Plantaze Wine Cellar Sipcanik, an Old military building transformed into an impressive wine treasury.

A fine welcome with fine wines.. very reasonablly priced

My wife and I visited this wine shop not far from Lake Skadar and were spoilt for choice. We had already taken a near empty suitcase with us on holiday with a view to stocking up with wine. Here we had plenty of choice with good advice. It was a bit of a trek from Budva where we were staying but certainly worth the trip and good to buy from the cellar itself.
