This park is a memorial to those who lost their lives during the Gwangju Democratic Uprising. There is a monument which contains a small underground museum. The park and monument are free. In addition to the monument, the park is quite nice with walking paths surrounded by trees. It was nice going for a walk after a long international flight and a train ride. There isn’t a metro station close to the park so I recommend either taking a taxi or a bus. Taxis are quite affordable in Gwangju. I suggest spending about an hour at the park. Restaurants and a supermarket are nearby.

This is the memorial Ozark for those who lost their lives fighting for democracy and the memorial sculpture in the centre and underground mausoleum are worth seeing. I happened to be there on a hot working day so there were only a few people going for lunch time walks using the circuit path around the park. The underground memorial is impressive. There were no lights on so I just took in the form of it, but then found the light switches, left hand tunnel as you go in, and that helped add to its splendour.
At the top of the park is a 3 level pagoda style building and the views from the top of Gwangju were great. This is not a large park so quite accessible for all.

This park is an awesome tribute to the people of Korea and their fight for democracy. I have been there several times and feel that it is a must-see destination if you're traveling to gwangju. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The facilities are modern and clean. Go there and check it out.

This is a relaxing and beautiful park year round, but especially in the spring once the fountains are on. The 5.18 memorial is moving, and the lawn is a great place for a picnic. You can stop in at the nearby library if you need a book :) You can climb to the top of the hill, or just walk the outer circle and stop by the temple.

i have been there 2 times and always felt awesome. The memorial park is amazingly beautiful and clean. It really shows how governments appreciate every souls of people who became victims on May 18th that time. Good place for walk around. There is a museum also in that park. Nice place to learn about history

This is a great place to while away an afternoon, or just a short hour. The memorial itself is beautiful, peaceful, but still eerily tragic. Make sure you enter the main memorial and go down the steps to the underground part, where all the names are listed. The park is also a lovely place to have a picnic or spend an afternoon. There are plenty of cafes and shops on the streets close by to pick up some lunch too. This is an important place to remember the those who died not long ago, fighting for democracy in South Korea.

It is a historic place in terms of Development for the Democracy of Korea. You can feel the voices of Gwangju citizens and their sacrifice for the country.

For those interested in history this is an interesting place to visit. It serves as a monument to those who fell in the fight for democracy. It is a monument and graveyard for heroes. We visited the site in November, thus making it also a nice time to also enjoy and take pictures of the autumn colors.

This place is an old military base given to the people and turned into a memorial. Freedom is never free and the blood of the innocent is often spilled in order to obtain it.

Great spot for a quick walk through or to linger and spend some time picnicking. There are a lot of statues and memorials commemorating the uprising that is credited as the birth of Korean democracy. The memorials are beautiful and moving and the park itself is very clean and comfortable. The day we went there were a lot of families enjoying a picnic in the park.
