Kandyan Dance is culturally interesting but not spectacular. A lot of repetitive dance steps and movements. Costume wise not a wide variety nor that colourful. Good to see once. I will not see a second time. Best part of the performance was the fire walking...More

This only highlight was the fire eating & fire walking the rest was a waste of time.... You buy tickets & then the performers stay at the exit doors waiting for tips - cheap & tacky

As part of a tour group,I was a bit tired and grumpy after a long day of travel. Our guide recommended we attend this cultural show. 1000 rupees entry and the venue looked like a large school hall. I was not expecting too much. I...More

This can be avoided. Performers are not properly trained and it looks like they are not interested in the performance. There is no need synchronization in the performance and boring at most of the times. At 2000 rupees for two, it is still overpriced.

Totally chaotic getting into the local Red Cross building, but once in, lots of seats for the many visitors keen to see this traditional Kandyian show. On every evening 5pm to 6pm, the hall is full of visitors, the organisers providing information sheets/programmes describing the...More

The production is amateur at best. Drummers looking around seemingly not knowing what to do next. Performers crossing back stage and in view as they snag the curtain. Performers in cultural dress but with wrist watch. Fire walking was very hoho.

The dancers were dressed beautifully but timing and the program were out. We were given a program outline with information relating to each dance but they were not in order so made it hard to read along with the dancing. At the end some male...More

5pm. But at that time it is a scramble to get good seating - no reserved seating exists. Reach about 15 to 30 minutes early. The duration is about an hour including a Fire dance which is outside the performance hall.

You buy tickets at the entrance of the Red Cross Hall where the performances are held. I would buy tickets early to get good seats. From the Temple of the Tooth, you walk along the lake away from the downtown/shopping/ area... More
