The Sthree social enterprise is one of the many projects of the Women's Development Centre in Kandy. Its goal is to create a platform for small businesses, led by women and disabled individuals. Through Sthree, these disadvantaged groups have the opportunity to earn an honest income and gain financial stability. At Sthree, we place the interest of the producer and their communities as the primary concern of the enterprise.

The products are made by various groups around Sri Lanka, obviously using natural skills. I bought a wrap, mostly just for the quality of design, colours and workmanship in the batik. It was one of many silk wraps that they had, for reasonable prices. Great...More

I can recommend a meal at Sthree. We were served a wonderfully prepared tasty meal that was produced in an immaculately clean kitchen. The locally produced products are of the highest quality and reasonably priced.

Sthree is without a doubt the best place in Kandy (or even in Sri Lanka) for souvenir shopping. The store is filled with a great variety of beautiful things, handmade by independent Sri Lankan women. Supporting local economy and the empowerment of women, I bought...More

Noted previously, this NGO supports vulnerable people. 'Feel good factor' aside, its a lovely shop with wonderful, high quality items at very reasonable prices. The friendly staff took time out to demonstrate what they were working on, which included hand weaving, furniture making and sewing...More

I found this place by accident as it was at the bottom of the hill where I was starting and I went for a random walk. Ending up spending a chunk of cash here - that said everything was reasonably priced, I just bought a...More

I read the reviews for Sthree and decided to visit for souvenirs. The selection is small. I bought a small batik and a few cards. I was confused when paying and gave the shopkeeper 5000 rupees too much for my purchase. I was adding too...More
