It's not really known to foreigners (or even Chinese.) but this is a relatively new (built around 2002) super Buddhist temple built in central Taiwan, the level of architecture ( and money spending ) on this place is mind boggling. certainly worth a good look.

This monastery is about an hour from Taichung city. No subway there, need to take taxi from the city. There was a museum beside. Didn't have time to go. So, I would suggest to spend at least 2-3 hours in both areas.

Quite incredible place to visit, you would't expect this size of monument in such a remote place. Even though temples can be quite similar I do recommend to visit. The place surrounding the temple belongs to the Buddhist and the nature is beautiful!

The whole building and grounds are exceptional! They hurry you through the inside areas near all the artifacts and buddhas, but you can take pictures. We didn't go in the museum this trip but would have liked to.

I have visited this monastery in April 2017 with colleagues of the Asian University of Taichung. The place is wonderful in the heart of a green landscape. The 1st floor is a very big hall with huge statues (four Kings) and buddhas or boddhisatvas (could...More

We feel quite conflicted by the monastery. On one hand its scale and ambition is huge and the architecture is amazing. On the other hand the amount that it cost to build (our guide book quotes an estimated cost of £110m US dollars) seems at...More

Per our tour guide, this was some special Buddhist temple that we were visiting. So when we got here, it was a surprise to see this place as more a monastery that was not the typical Buddhist temple that we were expecting. The place was...More

One of the top three temples in Asia in my opinion, along with Todai-ji Temple in Nara and Fa Men Temple in Xi'an. Been to all three each have their lineage and history worth a visit if in the area for sure it's gigantic

I was told the monks and nuns here have degrees and double degrees, it's very modern and luxurious. It's really peaceful and nice environment. You can see people holding signs reminding you to keep quiet and not to make any noise.

This is a great monastery. There was a museum that was closed when we happen to go. However check out the main hall for some very interesting statues.

It's not impossible but for foreigners it's difficult. The best option is to find the Nantou Bus ' station near the main train station (not the Highspeed one ) and take either 6899 or 6670 to PULI station. ( The main bus... More
