The second largest brackish water lake in India is along the Coromandel Coast, just 990 kilometers from Chennai. Visit here for the bird sanctuary and the exotic barrier island of Sriharikota, which divides the lake from the Bay of Bengal. The island also houses the Satish Dhawan Space Centre and several commercial fisheries.

Seasonal variations of the lake include dry, high level, saline water or sweet water etc. Specifuc seasons offer great views of migratory birds including... More

Highlight is the beach which is an 30 min boat ride from Pulicat backwaters..Clean beach ( till the time of writing this). If you are lucky you might see few migratory birds in the back water area. Boat ride will lessen your wallet by INR 1000/-. However the fisherfolks who ride the boat for you are nice and I dont... More

Needs tidiness. We hired a boat for the ride. He was honest and genuine. His name is Vinoth Kumar. His contact is 8189816263. You can call him when you go there. Place has very good beaches. Best to go in the summer, for bird loves.

It takes less than 1 hr from my hometown to reach this place. People might find this place dirty at the entrance once you take the boat and visit the beach your opinion about this place changes. Good place for bird watching.

Pretty good place for a weekend visit ~70kms from Chennai, offers boating to small islands in the lake, serene sea view. There are two roads by which one can reach Chennai, one normal gud road via Minjur other take a narrow road from L&T ship building yard to Pulicat Light house AKA Attipattu-Pulicat rd (Its literally uninhabited route)!
