I came here and walked the length of '200 feet road' the causeway cutting the marsh in half. There were a few birds of interest, but really this is not a nice place to come. It smells terrible. The water is filthy, there is traffic at all times of the day. Apart from that, there is nothing here. In Chennai,... More

One of the biggest marsh land in the urban part of Chennai is the most sought of places for birds watching. This marshland is visited by numerous birds of Europe and Russia who migrate here from such far flung places and countries to make it their home during the harsh winter in those places. This is a wonder in Chennai.... More

My home in Velachery is nearby, so whenever I travel from there to OMR, I use the road adjoining the Pallikaranai marsh. The location is beautiful and there are a number of migratory birds that can be seen. However, there is literally no protection to this area legally or otherwise. Huge stretches have been encroached by government agencies, builders/ developers,... More

Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve forest is a big strech of water and bushes. A few birds can be sighted in here. But this place has also been used for dumping waste. The government must clean this place and turn it to a bird Sanctuary as many birds visit this place often. This way we can also save nature and it will... More

People cross this Marshland/Lake everyday but mostly never take a moment to cherish the beauty. This is the place to be to get a glimpse of all species of migrating birds! This is the bird photographer paradise in Chennai. Not tourist friendly at present, but hope the govt comes up with a park soon.

I read about this place in Indian Times, therefore asked the driver to bring us there. However, there are fences all over the place and you cant really see the birds at all if you really don't have a powerful camera. This place is very close to IT businesses in Chennai. I would wonder If they don't destroy the environment... More

Once what was a bird sanctuary has now turned in to a dump-yard and an eye soar. As a young kid I had the opportunity to relish hundreds of bird species in this reserve forest. The Pallikarnai marsh is a open garbage and the landfills here contain some hazardous substances which often induces fire accidents. The water table in the... More
