I travelled darjeeling recently and booked the much discussed darjeeling toy train touring through Batasia loop and Ghum. Tickets are of two types - steam engine and diesel engine, the former is costlier. But the ride is very average. The steam engine is rather causing lot of pollution in terms of air and noise. Also, the exhaust of engine are... More

The 12 km train ride from Darjeeling to Ghum (steam engine) costs Rs 1300 per seat. The toy train system is a Unesco World Heritage monument. This to my mind is the Golden Goose of Darjeeling. Unfortunately, though the Golden Goose is still alive and well its surroundings have turned into a sordid mess. The train, during the journey, which... More

I took the Joyride (as many others do) of 2 hrs. from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back and was completely mesmerised. You are completely transferred to another era when you travel in the steam engine toy train. It is indeed a 'Heritage' You can get down from the moving train take pictures and get on back again (fun isn't it?!... More

Since I am writing this from the train itself, it would be obvious that there is nothing of interest to even look out at from here. I'm not sure how it has so many excellent reviews, but I can assure you will be paying 1200 Rs for only filth and dirt. Go for it if you like to look at... More

DHR Railway is heritage train its definitely pride. Young, old and Kids can enjoy ride either with Diesel engine or steam engine. The route is absolutely crazy running through town and many places very close to houses and shops. The ride brings lot of excitement at Batasia loop. It will be ideal to replace steam engine to avoid smoke as... More

A must do thing in Darjeeling. The train will take you to Ghum where you can visit the Railway museum. The 2 hours trip (with 30 minutes stop) is fun itself. The train will go back to the starting point.

Good experience specially if you have never travelled in a steam engine train but be prepared for a lot of noise, dirt and smoke. We got off on the first stop itself as we had enough and were not in a mood of any more.

Very expensive at 1300 rupees per person. I'll maintained and polluted dirty experience. Just take your photos and be done. Not worth it!!

I have heard about this train a lot and it was in our agenda to ride this but after seeing the train tracks location, I could clearly make out that I may not find anything other than traffic. So finally we didn't take any ride on this.
