I passed through the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary during one of my trips. I was hoping to see some elephants just as it happened to me in Bandipur and it did not happen. All I could see was a variety of monkeys. However, the route was scenic enough for a pleasant experience.

I visited this place during May 2016 for bird watching and it was a very pleasant and memorable walk through the sanctuary. We have taken a guide from Latpanchar guest house and walked down.

Except during rainy season when the sanctuary remains closed for tourists because of the mating season of animals ,this place is a wonderful getaway from busy life.

The entrance to this sanctuary is near the Sukhna Health centre. It is good for a days outing . Best to avoid it during the Rainy season. The river Teesta flows through it. There is a watch tower and a sort of a concrete gallery for picnicking. No animals other than rhesus monkeys can be seen . There are talks... More

The forest inside the sanctuary consists of 300 varieties of Botanical plants and was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1976. Situated on National Highway 55, this sanctuary attracts different varieties of migrated birds in the winter. It is also located along a railway lines... More

Mahananda Sanctuary is few kilometres from Darjeeling More of Siliguri. A highway leading to Darjeeling, Sikkim etc. cuts through it. The sal and teak trees just fascinates us but one can hardly locate any animal due to heavy traffic. But the sanctuary is serene. Ans as it's very adjacent to Army Base Camp, you can not enetr into the forest... More
